Corrosive Ammo

So I am going to build my PSL next weekend at the Sac AK build party. I bought a spam can of 54R and noticed it is the corrosive clean after you shoot.


My question...



Is it a pain in the *** to clean after every time you go shooting? What needs to be done?? Run a snake down the barrel?

You need to scrub it out with ammonia and water to get the corrosives out of it. Usually people use Windex and then flush with lots of HOT water (the water heats up the metal and makes it dry quicker). Then you need to oil it well inside and out.

You need to do this right when you get back from the range.

Ammonia doesn't do anything. A pint of really hot water does, and dries quickly so you can complete cleaning with hoppes or whatever. That is for the bore. You do have to disassemble the gas system and clean that as well...water then whatever. How quickly you do it depends on the moisture in the air. The salt attracts moisture, and that cause rust sooner or later.

Yup, hot water and plenty of it ASAP after you're done shooting, followed by a normal cleaning, oughta do the trick. Same process as for a "regular" AK.
