    New Dillon 650

Ok, so I just ordered 1 from Brian Enos and I am completely new to reloading but not afraid of it. 1 question is where should I buy the individual components from? I plan to start off with just 9mm and move up from there but have not clue where the bullets, powder, primers and brass. Just to clarify a little I am not looking to do any crazy kind of loads to start off with, just plinking ammo to start and once I get comfortable with reloading then I'll think about getting crazy.

    Thanks to all in advance!

Congrats on your purchase!!! I just got one too..

I've been getting a lot of my stuff from Fowler's gun room on Tustin Blvd. They have a pretty good selection of stuff on the shelf. Just make sure you buy the 650 caliber kits and not the 550 kits. I made that mistake last week.

If you are willing to buy a little in bulk (something you will likely get around to when you realize how much "components" that beauty will eat), Powder Valley online is my favorite place (mainly for powder, primers and when I need some Hornaday XTP's). Graf and Sons is another good place to get stuff.

I buy a lot of once fired brass from Brassman Brass:http: //store.brassmanbrass.com/servlet/StoreFront?sfs=e727600e

My favorite bullets for 9's is Montana Gold (direct from factory), with Precision Delta second (probably the best price on 9mm FMJ as shipping is included).

Congrats on a great purchase, nothing like starting at the top.

I'm sorry! You just bought a very hungry monster, she will consume 1K of bullets, 1k of primers and the better half of a pound of powder every 1.5 hours................. When I tell my wife that I need to restock the reloading components. She asks" What another 10K of bullets, 10K of primers and another 8 pounds of powder". My answer is Yes have to feed the machine. Her answer "use the credit card since I want the miles"

primers you can get at the gun show or ammo bros in cerritos
bullets at goldenwest brass in el monte but he ships.
powder at gun show or fieldtime in westminster
brass fieldtime or buy 9mm at walmart shoot it and pick up range brass.
good luck take it slow and read your manual and double check everything. don't reload if there are distractions around that's how kabooms happen.

Before you go to online stores, I would invest in the local mom and pop stores like Fowlers, Stockade and Field Time sports & Guns (Bob is the man).

Their advice could be worth the extra price as you learn the ropes. Don't go fast, make sure you know the steps from a good manual so good you can quote it, and pay close attention to detail.

Good luck and Welcome the wonderful world of assembling your own ammo.

Any recommendations for powder & primers?

                  Thanks again for the responses!

Pretty much any primer brand will work fine, I prefer Winchester. When WSP/WLP/WLR are sold out, I get CCI.

My favorite powder for 9mm is VV-3N37. It is more expensive than others. I think a great plinking powder is W231 and also Bullseye. They both are inexpensive and meter well.

Don't forget Alliant "Unique". Very versatile powder. I use it for 45 ACP and magnum calibers.

It is a pretty good case filler too.

MG are pretty awesome...high quality bullet.

Check here for a bit cheaper than buying from MG......

the 650 is the bomb...i started on one as well....and 1000 rounds can be done pretty quickly.....

I suggest initially you buy from the local stores. It will be a bit more money but you won't be locked into lbs of powder you may or may not like.

Get yourself a good reloading book...and remember always start charges lower and work your way up.....

                          get yourself a chrono next.....

                          have fun.....

I have another quick ? probably dumb but it doesn't hurt to ask. If I am using the speer loading manual can I use the MG bullets with the same load data from the speer book?

                            Thanks again.

The main thing is weight, then nose shape, etc.

Yes, just make sure you are using the same type of bullet spec'ed. For instance, a 115gr CMJ MG is the same as "115gr round nose jacketed", etc.

                              What MG's did you get?
