primer strength...

hey guys...got a question.

i running 9mm with CCI-92 (sp) and 4.2gr of tightgroup. its a decent load chronos around 1130 with a 115gr RN. but when i switch to wolf SP the velocity goes to 1180. not a "huge deal" but wondering how come? plus the primer using the 92's looks very round at the edges and very little cratering are the strike point. versus the wolf primer which is much flatter ,but still round, and the crater is much easier to see....

what should i do? i can push the load to 4.5gr....any body know any info on these primers? my knowledge in these are limited...

btw these are shot out of a 92fs

Reduce your powder charge. Wolf and Winchester are know to be "hotter" primers.

I would not worry about but if you want crono 10 rounds of each primer and averge them out i bet not much difference

Beretta 92'S have champhered firing pin holes at the breechface. What looks like a crater is actually normal brass flow. If the breech face was perfectly flat, you would not see anything. CCI primers are harder than Wolf primers, hence they remain rounder after firing. It takes alot more pressure to flatten them out. Federal primers are the softest. They flatten out completey at 20K and look melted into the casehed at 40K.
