Working up load for 30-06, powder questions

I will soon be starting to work up a good load for my new rifle I am waiting on. On my last rifle I had gotten good results with H4831 and IMR4350 with a 180gr bullet, but I am out of powder and need to pick some up. I will be using a different bullet as well, switching from Hornady 180gr spitzer to Speer 180gr BT soft tip.

I am looking for some input on both of these powders and am open to any suggestions on a new powder if someone has a good recipe. I will be using the load for some pig hunting but I would love to get into some long range target shooting with it as well.

Ideas? Thoughts? Comments? Insults?

Oh, the rifle is going to be a Remington 700 in 30-06. I guess that would be important. Thanks for your help!

Both those powders are slow for the 30-06 so you cannot use to much as the case will be full. If I were to use one of those it would be 4350. If you run them over a chrono you might be surprised at the actual speeds you are getting.
All you need is a 150-165 gr bullet to kill anything you will hunt. I have found IMR4064 the best for those bullets. I have run many powders over my chrono testing. Accurate and the fastest bullet speeds.

49 grs Reloader 15 with 165 or 168 gr Sierra or Hornady boat tail bullets work for me. Sierra's 5th edition lists at 2900 fps. Deer drop in their tracks within 100 yds.
180gr bullets list at 44.0 grs RE15 and 2500fps

Both will work and get you velocities in the 2550 + fps range. IMR 4007 SSC will get you another 100 fps. Check out the load data at www.hodgdon.com

I've been using Varget with 165gr bullets - should get 2500+. Works great on pig and deer.

Hmm, I never thought of Varget for the 30-06. I was going to try it for my .223 since I ran out of IMR4198 so that may be a good dual purpose buy. Thanks.
