Cleaning powder measure

Now Im confused as ever. I understand oil is a no-no, but leaving a film of dry lube? I decided to clean it today and just wipe any oil residue that was left from the original owner. Nothing special just a rag to wipe any gunk built up inside. Used my handgun cleaning rod and a brush and ran it through the drop tube. Now for the part that worries me is the measuring cylinder. Do I put dry lube it? Moving parts right?

NO LUBE on ANY moving part that could come in contact with powder. External
linkage a bit of lube will not hurt.

Personally I think you should forget the idea of lube on a powder measure all together. They are designed to run dry, if it's clean that's all you need. Oil on moving parts will eventually stick to something else unwanted. Not all metal to metal mating surfaces require oil, or lube.

I have the RCBS Uniflow powder measure and I m also new to reloading.

Am I suppose to break it apart and put it back on every time I use it? I am experiencing inconsistent charge. It seems to go lower than my targeted amount every 10 throws. Is this natural or am I doing something wrong?

Buy the powder baffle for your Uniflow. It'll give it a more consistant throw as long you keep the hopper more than half full.

You do not need to take apart the dispenser for cleaning. I ran half full of powder when I got mine brand new to coat the contact area with graphite from the powder. I've had my dispenser since 98' and never took it apart for cleaning. I do wipe the exterior with rust inhibitor.

My Grandpa just gave me his RCBS reloading setup he purchased new in the early 70's. The instructions for the Uniflow clearly state DO NOT attempt to remove the hopper or damage will occur.

What type of powder are you using? Extruded powders often bridge and don't drop properly, or will not be consistent. For extruded powders throw low then trickle up.
Your stroke on the Uniflow should be the same each time. When you are consistent the throws with spherical or flake pwoders are usually consistent.

Modern gun powder has graphite in it as a deterrent to slow the burn rate. This lubricates the drum assembly in use.

I've been loading with a Uniflow since 1981 or so and have never cleaned it other than wiping down the parts with a clean, dry cloth when I switch drums.

Figured it out Im using H322 powder and Im throwing charges on the spot or maybe 0.2 grains within recommended spec. I use an empty case to trickle to desired amount.
