    45acp Reloading question.

    Hello Fellow Calgunners,

I am kinda new to reloading. As of now I only reload for 9mm. I wanted to get into reloading 45acp. The few books that I use are older hornady books(3rd & 4th editions). In the detail of reloading it tells you, 45acp does not need to be crimped. Now for my 9mm I use a taper crimp die. I am looking into purchasing a Lee 3 piece 45acp carbide die set. In the details it does not say that a crimp die is include. Do I have to purchase the crimp die separately? Or is it true that I do not have to crimp the brass after the bullet is set? Thanks for your help.

You will have to remove the flare that you put on the case when preparing for accepting a bullet.

The seating die has ability to place a nice crimp on the round. It is not necessary, although recomended by some, to crimp in a separate step. I personally crimp separate.

    Hope this helps bud

a 3 pc set does not include a crimping die. go to titan reloading or lee factory sales and you'll get a 4 set for less $40.00

The 3 die set has a seater/crimper. It does not include a FCD (factory crimp die).
The standard crimp die works fine. Try it this way first since you can always buy the FCD separately later.

I think I would just get the 4 die set myself.

I would get a RCBS set with a seperate Redding taper crimp die.

.45ACP loading is just like loading for 9mm the only difference is the .45 is bigger and they both need a slight tapered crimp to remove the belling.
