Where to get calibration weights for beam scale?

I recently bought an RCBS 505 beam scale, but I'm having a hard time calibrating it... It looks like I need either a 1 or 2 ounce weight. Anybody know of a place in San Francisco that carries these?

You want calibration weights in grains if possible as that scale is set to weigh in grains. Ounce/gram weights will need you to convert to grains to verify your scale. A set of weights from 1-50 grains is best to have.

I got my set of "grain" check weights through brianenos.com

I think Dillon, Midway and Sinclair International all carry them too.

I use a dime which is 35 grains and a nickel which is a tad over 77 grains. Didn't have to pay for standard weights. Both are cheap and readily available.

i thought you just needed to zero a balance beam unless it has significant damage

Zeroing a balance beam (or any type of scale for that matter) does not guarantee weight calibration nor does it verify throw repeatability.

If you are always using the same balance beam there is no need to know the exact weight. Repeatability is the key and a balance beam is great for that. Always zero your scale before and during a batch. Once you have your load developed using that scale, note the weight, then stick to what it says. If you move to another scale calibrate it against the balance beam you have been using. Just my .02

If this is your conclusion, then you must purchase your ammo to be certain of quality, but even then, you will still have doubs.
