That case looks like WCC NATO with the little plus stamped inside the circle. Those are crimped. Wouldn't have made any difference what primer was used.

Of course, they have the built in crimped and Berdan primer pocket detector and sound a loud warning to the operator. But the camera, processor and software would cost 10 times as much as the loader...Comment

This is very common with Dillons. They are built to take just this sort of thing. You might want to remove the tube from the primer magazine. It is probably toast as well. Notice how thick the outer steel housing is on the tube housing. It is steel while the inner tube is aluminum which is designed to split reliving the pressure. If it was steel more than likely the plastic piece that left a dent in your ceiling might have made it through the sheetrock. This is probably the biggest gripe I hear about Dillons but a small price to pay for an occasional detonation. Besides they will ship you all the replacement parts you need for free. That's ok, in my case, it's Federal or I have to put my competition revolver back to factory specs since it won't reliably fire anything else.. Personally, it happens so seldom that I don't worry about it.. there is a reason Dillon armor plates that primer magazine.. and why they will replace it.. 12 years loading on the 650, 100's of thousands of rounds loaded and "knock on wood", no issues..Had one Federal primer go off in my 650! That was the last Federal primer I ever used.Comment

I just want to know why that some think this is a Dillon problem? It's pretty obvious that a primer was swedged into a crimped pocket. I bet there was some serious resistance felt before it went boom. This was definately a component issue. The same could happen to any machine.Comment

There's a theme here:
Federal primers are soft and can explode under normal use. It's got nothing to do with the brand of press.
I guess that's why Lee says not to use them on their old style hand primer. The way the ram was designed it was possible to clip the edge of a primer. Could you imagine an entire tray of primers chain reacting in your lap? I'd rather not. The new one can use any primer, btw.Ronald Reagan once said that the most terrifying words in the English language are: "I'm from the government and I'm here to help".

I had that happen about three years ago.with federal primers on my 650.Dillion replaced everything and gave it a tune up for free except shipping the whole unit to them in Arizona.It looked new when it came back. I have three Dillion reloaders Two square deals for pistols and one 650 for .308. Both square deals have been totally rebuilt by dillion because I cracked the frame on both.Had them about twenty fives years a piece and over million rounds reloaded with no problems except the craked frame.
