Looking to start reloading match ammo is just to expensive, i am looking for sierra smk 175gr 308 bullets at least 500 bullets.
i have checked online and all prices are around the same price, anyone
can recommend a vendor who has best prices.

I'd go Grafs honestly because the price they give you is shipped and is lower than most shipped. Including Natchez. Your only going to be saving about 4-5 bucks.

as the user ar15barrels said, keep everything consistent. How you trim your brass, prime, load powder etc

depends on how much time and money you got, you can even trim the nose of the bullets.

500 rounds of .308 is going to take about 3 pound of powder...if your going to be mail ordering powder or primers, you need to figure in the Haz mat into the shipping. Sometimes, its cheaper, in the end, to buy from the place with the cheapest shipping, not necessarly just the price of the items. Powdervalley has been offering shipping deals with purchase of 5k or 10k primers...it may be worth a look to see what this months specials are.

Some of the guys I have polling regarding my upcoming loading of 308 Win have good things to say about Hornaday A-max as a lower priced alternative for their competitve shooting.

I am going to try them alongside the SMK's and Berger's after I get me and my new gun dialed.

James are you asking about prices on powder or 175 smk's at gunshows? As for finding smk's at a gunshow forget it, I don't think I have ever seen them for sale by anyone. Powder is still cheaper if you mail order it and even better if you and Gus both go halves on everything! Oh by the way....the ontario gunshow sucks nuts!!! cant buy primers or powder!

The cheapest that I found back then was from bauer arms and they sold them for $135 for 500. I've moved away from 175grn smks now so I don't know what the price are on them anymore. If you can't get any for a decent price, I say you switch to Hornady AMAX 178grn. It's a better bullet IMO and much cheaper as well. I know a place that sells them for $23 per 100. Midway also sells them for around $28 per 100

This is how I prep my match grade cartridge.

First I get some crap bullets that I use to fireform the cases. Once the cases are fire formed, I use my Redding body die to bump the shoulder back .001". Then I run it through the Lee Collet die to straighten the neck out. Then I debur the flash hole, uniform the primer pocket, and trim to length if needed. I settle on 2.015" for my case length. My chamber is 2.032" so I have plenty of room. I used to neck turn but saw no difference so I have since stopped. I would only neck turn now in a tight chamber. Then finally I debur the mouth of the case. Don't over do this part. Just a light chamfer is all you need. I then sort the brass out by a difference of 1 grain.

Now that my brass is all prepped, I alway prime with a hand held primer because it gives you much better feel. Then I measure and charge with my RCBS chargemaster. This can be debatable as to the accuracy of a digital scale, but I have referenced it numerous times to my balance beams and it's spot on. So this saves me some time from trinkling up manually. Once all the cases are prepped, I take out my Redding Comp seater which is already preadjusted for 2.253 @ the ogive. Then I simply seat them all and measure with a stoney point bullet comperator to verify that they are all consistent at the ogive. That's it!


Also when I have extra time on my hands, I would roll each of the assembled cartridge on a concentricty gage. This is just for my own personal reference. There should be little run out if everything is done right and your dies are quality stuff. If any cartridge has more run out than I want, I just shoot them any ways. I know some people "adjust" them by bending the bullet in the neck to straighten it out. I don't do it.
