    corn cobb in my .223

so i sorted a bunch of 223 brass and decided to toss it in the ol' tumbler and see what my new corn cobb media would do to it. well, its clean, and most of it is jammed full of bits of cobb that somehow seem larger than the opening in the cartridge. this should be fun!

Ha ha! Get a paper clip and make a bend to where it is somewhat straight and poke the corn out

Live and learn! I was trying to get away from the annoying red rouge dust of the walnut but apparently it's not worth my while with .223. Works great for pistol brass, though.

I did that once with corn cob I bought at Walmart. I should have know better as it wasn't nearly as ground as the corn cob I had been using but my local FFL I had been getting it from was closed for two days. I ended up throwing most of the brass into my scrap bucket and starting fresh. I got better corn cob at Petsmart but it is still a lot dustier than what I had been getting at the gun store so I have to shift it before using it. When it's gone I plan on going back to the stuff my local FFL sells, may cost a little more but it is a lot less hassle.

Use fine corn, the petco corn is too large for .223.

I did that one time only. Got so pissed I threw out all the corn cob I had, AND the brass! I will never use corn cob again. Walnut gets it clean enough anyway.

Corncob is for reloaders who would rather LOOK at their pretty rounds rather than actually shoot them. j/k!

Isnt it the other way around, walnut is more of a polish and corn cobb cleans but leaves adull finish.

That's the way it is in my experience. Corn is dull, walnut is bright.

Really?!?! I'd always heard it was the other way around, that people used walnut for general cleaning, and cob for final polishing... If I have it backwards, my bad.

Either way I don't personally see the need for 2 cleaning agents, not when walnut from PetSmart does a fine job of cleaning and doesn't clog up my cases. It does cause a minor inconvenience by clogging up the flash hole sometimes though...
