Ok once you have all the tools and are set up, Whats your cost to produce 1 round ? Not including labor
I am interested in 5.56/.223 and 9mm myself. I know individual parts go up and down in cost so I am not looking to have a perfect number. Just whats been the average + or - 2 or 3 cents.
Feel free to add other calibers as well

case is free (either pick up or amortized over 6-8 reloads @0.05/6 = $0.01)

so $0.17/shot for a round customized to shoot better than factory ammo.

.223, 9mm, 7.62x54R, 7.62x39 are hard to beat commercial loads, but it can be done and when you have a good sized stash, you don't worry about how many rounds you shoot.

When reloading some of the other rounds that approach $1/shot, you can quickly make up for the cost of a modest reloading set up.

9mm or, any pistol round I reload from .25acp to .44mag, costs me about 2.5-4.5 cents per round. I cast, size and lube my own bullets, use range pick up brass and buy primers and powder in bulk.

.223 costs about 11 cents per round using today's prices for surplus pulled bullets, bulk primers and surplus bulk powder.

I'm sure that you can cut the cost down a little more by shopping around but, that gives you a qiuck idea.

About an hour or so to load 500 rounds on a blue machine. But, that does not count the time it takes to prep the brass. You need to size it, trim it and dubur it before you think about loading it. The time it takes to trim and debur varies greatly depending on what type of trimmer you are using.

Yea there's a lot work involved in doing the entire job. I watched a 14 part video posted by a CG member, I think his name was Raymond. Good starting point for me.

One vendor (the first one I looked up) has today's prices at:

.058 per 55g air pulled surplus
.022 per primer at SPP $110/5000
.038 per 25g load of WC 844 Pull Down - (Cross reference loading data for H335) at $85/8lbs

So, the exact same load is only about 12 cents a round if you shop right.

I was going to go with that guy in Mo, but after seeing the hazmat, shipping and that I just wanted to use retail ball powder rather than risk pulldown powder, I paid the extra $10 for the H335 OTD.

You can always find better deals if you do group buy's, cast your own or buy enough for 10,000 bullets at a time rather than 500 to 1000 at a time. I doubt a beginner will be doing this.

Speaking of powder, how much is needed to reload 1000 rds of .223

Depends on the type of powder used.

Varget is about 26.5 gr/round for .223 with a 55gr FMJBT bullet.

For 9mm, I use w231 but mainly Unique and use about 5.2 gr/round for unique, do not know the number I use for w231 off the top of my head.
