    newbie: case prep question

Please forgive me in advance if this sounds like a dumb question. So I started trimming using the Possum Hollow Kwick case trimmer and I understand that the minimum OAL needs to be 1.750. After trimming, my cases come out to 1.753, what is the maximum range to allow for trimmed cases.

Also I think I went to town on the chamfer/deburr process and some of my brass is down to 1.730 I take it thats a no-no.

What caliber case are you trimming? On your reloading book, there should be a min-max lenght, if you're in between those you should be ok.

You just want to knock the sharp edge & burrs off the case mouth you don't want to knife edge it.

Your book should list a minimum case length, and a maximum for the case. there should also be a case-length reccomendation for the bullet you choose to use, some have a cannelure it wants you to hit. Some have an odd ogive point that you don't want to have the case reach, so it necessitates a shorter case.

seriously. If your chamfer tool is taking off that much, then you've cut it to a knife edge. When I use mine, I take the rough spots off the outside (deburr), and do a little extra on the inside (chamfer) and try to avoid a blade-sharp edge. I've hit that sharp point before, and it's a nuisance.

If you want to cut shorter, the possum hollow trimmer is adjustable. You don't need to. And you're chamfer/deburring TOOOOOO much

If your cases are too long, the necks will get stuffed up into the end of the chamber, putting the squeeze on the bullet and that will case elevated pressure. That's the primary concern. As long as your under the Max Length, you should be good to go in any chamber.

The "trim-to-length" is simply the Max Length minus an arbitrary number (0.010"). So as long as you're under max, you will be fine. A little variation is to be expected.

Chamfer/deburr only takes a quick, light touch.

                Max is 1.750
I trim to 1.730 because I find that some brass including LC is as short as 1.730 sometimes shorter.

Your fine if your a little lower than the minimum. Your case should have enough of a neck to hold a bullet in with some tension. With your measurements they should work fine. Don't worry about them.

Just make sure your trimming them when they get around the Max OAL of the brass.
