opinion on 45 cal 200 gr RNFP

I was reading how some 1911 guys like the 200gr Lead RNFP for plinking since it leaves a nicer hole than a 230gr LRN that tears up the target pretty good. I would make a large purchase of 5000 rounds to save on money, but wanted to get some opinions first before I spend the money. Have any of you guys ever shot the above mentioned bullet in a 1911 Mil spec?

Thanks to all of you who have helped me in the last week. If anyone wants 500 rounds or so let me know and I will give you the price I paid ( 60.00 per 500) if I decide to buy a bunch.

I suppose RNFP will load better than SWC. My 1911 feed SWC about 90% and RN 100%

If you do go with the SWC you will need to polish your barrel ramp for better reliability. Once you get that done you may never need any other type of bullet ever again. The 200gr SWC is very popular and accurate.

No, I am thinking of Round nose, Flat point 200 grain. They are the Laser cast bullets from Oregon bullets.

So basically they are cast bullets that claim to not cause any leading.
I don't think there is anything they can do to prevent leading any more than another company. Sounds like a sales pitch to me, unless I missed something.

RNFP bullets won't leave nice holes in paper. Only SWC or WC bullets will do that.

Missouri Bullet has a cast RNFP 200 grn bullet for $36/500. You should give them a try to see if they cause any leading. The price is so much better it is worth a shot.

+1. RNFP, IIRC, are for heavier bullets to keep down OAL and greater terminal ballistics.

I have in the past used lots of 185g/200g SWC bullets.
Occasionally I would have failure to feed during a pistol match.
Never again, 200g RNFP are now my favorite and feed through my 1911 100%.
They are loaded for light recoil, yet hit steel targets with authority.

Oregon Trails is kinda pricey, but its a good product. I switched to Bear Creek due to the volume I shoot (USPSA). Any how my shooting partner uses 200 grn round nose from Bear Creek. The outside profile is the same as a 230. Where Bear Creek makes a difference is the base is hollow to remove the 30 grns of weight. My friend likes the way the 200's feel. I like the 230's. Either way the 200 grns are good to go.

You may want to change recoil and main springs to get take full advantage of your reloads.
