    Minimum tools needed for Casting

Have never cast my own, but do reload my own.

My question is, if I want to cast, what is the minimum items I need to do it, rifle and pistol?

I don't need extra fancy, but I wouldn't want to run bare bones.

I need specific items, so I can price it out.

    Thanks.

I'd like to get into casting eventually, but I've decided to buy cast bullets in the meantime, mainly due to price. I do have one question: do I still need to tumble-lube cast bullets that have already had lube put in the "rings"?

              No, they're good to go.

                Thanks.
Check out the thrift stores in the cookware section. Try to find either a cast iron or stainless steel pot. Also look for a stainless steel ladle and a spoon with holes in it. I took a ladle and punched a hole (3/16" dia IIRC) in it near the top. When I tilt the ladle the lead comes out the hole in a nice stream and it doesn't matter if the top skins over. The slotted spoon is for skimming wheel weight clips and the dross.

Other than that, you need a heat source and molds to get going. If you eventually pick up a real casting pot, then you can still use this setup for casting ingots.

                  My humble equipment;

Bayou single burner purchased from Craigslist for $25.
Metal cooking pot from thrift store that can hold 8-10lbs of lead for $4.
2 propane tanks purchased from Craigslist $15 a piece. Swapped at Lowe's for full ones $18 a piece.
Large stainless steel mixing spoon taken from the kitchen without the blessing of the Commnader in Chief.
Small stainless steel measuring cup 1/4 cup capacity that's been modified with wooden handle purchased from 99 cent store.
5 gallon bucket obtained from work -- free of course.
Wooden dowel for striking the sprue puchased from Lowe's for $2.
Beeswas for flux purchased from Micheals craft store $12 for a brick.
                  Lee's 7/8 ounce slug mold $18.
                  Lee's .308 round ball mold $18.
                  Lee's .319 round ball mold $18.

I cast exclusively for my shotty.
