A 9mm running subsonic ammo in a 16" barrel is very quiet if loaded with fast powders.
A 300x221 running subsonic ammo is also very quiet.
No gun is truly "movie silent", even with a sound suppressor, but the right combination of bullet weight, fast powder and a long barrel will make them more than quiet enough to shoot in the house without the neighbors complaining.
I shoot Aguila's primer powered 17gr 22lr ammo from a 27" barreled bolt gun in the backyard.
It's about as loud as a spring-operated staple gun.
