Ar-15 silencer?

Ok heres my plan, i have a ar-15 with a FAKE can on it, i want to make the rounds really silent but still be able to hit 100 yard steel, but most importantly i want to make sure that the bolt Cycles, any ideas on grains and bullet weight for a silent ar-15 in .223

You want more than is feasible given the design.
If you get the pressure low enough to be quiet, there will not be enough to run the action.

Move out of state.
Buy a real sound suppressor.

Short of that, look into a 9mm or a 300x221 and run subsonic ammo in it.
Both of these are considerably quieter because the muzzle pressures are so low.

The pressure at the muzzle directly correlates to the sound pressure level.

Longer barrels help.
Faster powders help.
Less powder REALLY helps.

If you download a .223 to the point where it is even subsonic, you will:

A: Never get the dang thing to cycle, there is just not enough gas to make it happen.

B: Have a 60 grain bullet moving at around 800-1000 FPS which drops considerably and be even remotly acurate unless you have a slow twist rate barrel (1 in 12 or so)

C: Have figured out how to make the most expensive/worthless .22LR bolt action in firearm history.


Just go buy a .22LR conversion kit and run Aguilla SSS through it, 60 grain bullet 850 FPS.... Sound familliar?

Ummm..... there is no such thing as a silent AR-15 without making it illegal here in this state unless you have a class III license so whats the point? Thread locked.
