    Ok Fellas, Need 45 recipe

I am getting a 1911 and plan on casting my own 230g RN bullets.

But my lyman manual doesnt have load data for cast 230g.

Anyone have some medium loads I can try?

Im going to need a new powder for it as I dont plan to use Power pistol for it like my 40S&W.

    Thanks fellas

I have never used 230 grain bullets for reloading. I used 200 grain lead SWC bullets with 4.8 grains of Win 231 for target shooting. Had good results.

i've always used bullseye for my cast 45 and 9mm so thats all i know

          i put 3.5 in my 9 and 4.5 in my 45

i shoot multiple 45s (babyeagle,1911,glock21)so the 4.5 grain is fairly stout you can back it down to 3.5 and generally not get a squib in barrels less than 6 inches

Is there a reason a lot of folks are using the 200gr?

Just curious as that seems to be a popular load

200grain swc makes incredibly clean large holes in target paper its almost like a punch and supposedly gives lighter recoil

                        230 round leaves torn holes
but accuracy wise its comparable when fired to my poor skill standards

                          Another reason:
If you cast, the 230 is 15% more lead than the 200.
                          Lead is gettin spendy.

6 grains of unique behind any 45 acp bullet is safe. I think 6.1 or 6.2 will get milspec 830+ fps on 230 gr ball.

6.0 with lead will be fine too.
