Berger Bullet 22cal 80gr/82gr Prototype testing report

Berger Bullets sent me sample boxes of a prototype 80gr BTHP and a prototype 82gr BTHP. These are traditional BTHP match bullets, and not VLDs.

This was part of a beta testing program Berger is having in order to choose a new heavy 22cal non-VLD bullet for their product line.

I wrote an article/review and it can be read here:

I held off making my results public until I submitted my report to Berger and after the report deadline (last Monday) so I would not skew, influence, or bias the testing of anyone else participating in the test program.

Here's a couple of teaser photos which are included the article linked above:

    Berger 80gr (L) and 82gr (R) Prototype boxes, opened.

Side by side comparison. From left to right: Sierra 80gr Match King, Berger 80gr VLD, Berger 80gr Prototype, and Berger 82gr Prototype.

Good review. Hopefully this will be a bullet to compete with the SMK that won't be so sensitive to seating depth. Good work!

      I tested the 76 & 78 grainers.

OMFG....I don't even want to look at a bullet, calipers, scale, chrono, and reloading equipment for a while....

wow, 82 gr. 223 rounds. This raises the bars. Definite trend towards more slim profile bullet design in match ammo.

Well Sierra DOES have a 90gr SMK.. but it doesn't perform like it was expected to.. or at least people have been able to get it to perform like it should....
