    Reloading Glock brass question

Forgive me if my Google-fu is not up to snuff but I was wondering if there were any reloaders that have a Glock 40 and reloads their brass.

Do you reload your brass to re-use them in your Glock or just to use in other firearms?

How long does your brass last or when do you toss it, if you do re-use the brass in your Glock?

Lastly, when you reload/re-use your brass do you reload with lead or jacketed bullets?

    Thanks for your response.

There are plenty of non fully supported chambered pistols out there. The trick to reloading is full length resizing all the way down. Some FL sizers will not go to the bottom of the cartridge. I load 9mm and .40 for my brother and myself with my Dillon XL650. All I do is pull the barrel out of each cal I am loading for at the time. I make sure that I am sizing them all the way and that they fit in the chamber with no problems. Do a few and and then start loading and dropping in a few here and there until I feel comfortable with the results.

I did make the mistake at first to not check them in my chamber, it passed the go gage from Dillon but the rounds would not fully chamber or chamber really snug. I think I loaded 400 or so rounds and that was enough for me to learn my lesson. Luckily for me I have a really nice friend who helped me with a collet puller and pulled some for me and had me do the last 300 or so rounds. I was able to resize the brass with the primer in them and all was good.

Just get the Redding complete body sizing die for Glock .40 brass. It sizes the whole case, since the die uses a extension on the ram your brass goes in the bottom and pops out the top. Glock bulge, what Glock bulge. If you don't get that bulge out your asking for feeding and seating problems if you use them in other pistols.

EGW has a replacement sizing die that works. I have a roll sizer.

I just have the regular Lee carbide dies. Once sized there is no bulge. My cases fit and feed in my G23, and every gun other gun I've tried them in. How long they'll last is going to depend on your loads. I don't load real hot since my ammo is just for target practice/plinking. FWIW I'm loading 180grn plated bullets, but when I run out I'm planning on trying some 165 FMJ's from Precision delta.

I used this undersize die on bulged brass from my Glocks. Works well.

I always resize full length, not most of the way down, but all the way down.

When shooting thru glock barrels, the case expands more towards the bottom. If I don't full length resize then the reloaded ammo will still feed thru a glock barrel, but not thru an After market barrel like my Storm Lake.
                (G 29)

The Stormlake barrel is so much tighter, to the extent the cases hardly need resizing at all. After a range session with both barrels and me picking up brass, it's easy to tell what feed thru the GLOCK VS the Stormlake. The handle pull is much harder on the GLOCK fed ammo.

One handy item I use often is my Dillon Case Guage. If It won't fit into the guage it won't feed in the StormLake. Worth the 14 bucks IMO.

I've been running Max loads in my GLOCK..and I'am reloading cases for the 6th time now. I think they will make 10 times no problem.

Thanks for the responses guys. I already have the Redding body sizing die but it's kind of inconvenient (I'm lazy and woulda just preferred a regular sizing die). I found out I needed it since the "Glocked" brass doesn't feed in my Sig for some funny reason (even tho it fit the case gauge fine). I didn't know about the EGW and it looks like I'm gonna have to look into that. Thanks for the info and link, uscbigdawg and Mark2203.

uscbigdawg, I gather you have a Case Pro? Does that really make a difference in the brass (I'm just trying to justify the cost)?

It does as you can do 1000 cases in about 25-30 minutes. I have dies for 9, 40 and 38 Super.

I shoot about 1500 per month.

                      OK, stupid question time...

What are you shootin' and how long does it take before you have to overhaul or buy another pistola?

When I had my Glock 30, I used old brass over until I would see split cases.

I shoot mostly 38 Super and swap barrels around 20-30k (or about 2 years of shooting). On the 40 they last between 25-40k for me and swap barrels basically every 3 years. On the 9mm, the barrels are lasting about the same as the 40.

The 9 & 40 are relatively easy barrel swaps. I just send them to my gunsmith and he fits a new barrel. On the 38 Super it's a bit more involved, only 'cause of the additional porting that I do to my barrels.

ETA: I should say these are all fired out of 1911's with the occasional Glock.

I get Glock brass all the time. I use the EGW die and have no problems at all. I use them in my STI, SV, CZ and they run just fine.
