    190 grain .308/.30-06

My dad's birthday is in a few weeks and I'm looking to load up some match ammo for his pre-'64 .30-06 that he's extremely proud of so he can have some long range fun. It's looking like for the .30-06 that the 190 grain bullets might be a good way to go since he says that 180's shoot better in his barrel than 165's do for hunting loads. I'm looking at 3 choices so far: Sierra, Nosler, and Berger. What has been your experience in loading something like this? Any particularly good or bad results? Any tips?

I've loaded Sierra 168's for 308. Forgot what the twist is. I've loaded some 180's for a hunting round. The 168's seem to be a bit more accurate in mine.
But the bullets are well made, Very consistant.
    Happy Birthday to your Dad!
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I have loaded up quite a few 190 grainers with imr 4064. I can't remember off the top of my head the amount of powder I used. Around 42 grains. I shoot them out of my rem 700 cdl and they kick a little stoutly, but they are great for longer ranges. I load them to 2.800 oal.

I am starting to use the Hornady bullets, they shoot great and the $$ is right!

I trust my Sierra bullets. Pre '64 Winchesters may have 1-12" twist barrels.
