what's the consensus on these bullets?

I am just starting to research reloading these last couple weeks. I've been reading up on equipment, watching a lot of youtube videos, getting an idea of the price of things, etc before I buy a manual then commit to invest in equipment.

Trying to make this an economically wise decision is important for me, although many people say don't reload to save money, reload for fun because you don't save all that much...

I'm looking to reload 9mm for the xd-9 I have recently purchased. These bullets are the best deal i've seen at $58-60 per 1k. I know I'd have to use a little more powder since they're 125 grain, as opposed to the standard 115gr available in bulk elsewhere (but the best price i've seen on that is about $100/1k), but that's almost negligible.

Those are all "cast lead" bullets and that is why they seem cheap. You can use them, but I would advise using FMJ or JHP instead as jacketed bullets will be easier to use in a semi-auto pistol than lead ones for starters. Cast lead will smoke a lot (bad at indoor ranges) and foul the barrel up fast.

When you have more reloading under your belt, you can then decide if shooting lead bullets is something you want to try.

Unfortunately, that is what I suspected, but now that I heard it from someone else I will likely end up coughing up with extra $$ for jacketed bullets if I start reloading. I definitely don't want to foul up my barrel and I expect to be shooting primarily at a local indoor range.

Nothing wrong with shooting cast lead. I shoot them in everything I own. You actually use less powder in a 125 gr bullet not the other way around. Plus you use much less powder in lead loads. More savings. The smoke is from the bullet lube and most indoor ranges have great ventilation systems and is never a problem. Save your money for things like guns don't waste good money on expensive plinking bullets.

Check your manual for load data before you buy. You might not find data for the 124gr bullets for the powder you have.

Mitch and Artie are great people to deal with, I have been doing business with them for years. Their bullets are hard cast lead and very accurate, have never had a leading problem with the 200 grain .45ACP LSWC that I buy by the thousands.

Hey Chief, I would have never dissed lead bullets for the OP if it was a .45ACP he was gonna' load for. 800fps is a perfect velocity range for lead bullets. He said this was for an XD in 9mm and 1100fps+ may give him a very different perspective.

That said, I started loading 9mm many moons ago using soft lead bullets. Took me a bit to figure out what hard cast meant, and a bit more to figure out what not cleaning lead outa' barrels meant

For me, 9MM ammo is so cheap these days, it's not worth reloading.

Of course some people who shoot Gun Games might reload.

You can reload FMJ 9mm for just over $6.00/box and cast your own for a little over $2.50/box. Buy hard cast or Plated and you're somewhere in between.
Retail is over $10, so it is worth it if you have the time.

Nothing wrong with lead. Missouri Bullet is a good place to get lead.

For plated, FMJ, etc., try TJ Conevera: TJ Conevera Bullets

And as has been stated, generally you use less powder with the heavier bullets. Also tames the recoil a bit! With lead, you use a lower charge also. For plated bullets, use the mid-range load data.

Buy jacketed in bulk and spend just a few pennies more.

Or look into bear creek moly coated bullets. They do not lead your barrel as much.
