Oh, those things. Ya, I don't know much about those. You can get a pretty cheap single stage press for well under $100. Making ammo with a hammer would be kind of nostalgic I guess, but I' wouldn't want to do it all the time.Chris

All depending on your shooting. I started with one of those but in .223. It's more of a novelty then anything else. I would rather have you go hand press then that. You can find hand press starting at 30 bucks if your lucky. Buy the dies for another 30 bucks and your set for your 40sw.
One thing to concider is that once you start reloading your going to shoot more, when you shoot more, your going to want to load more.

I have the one for the .45. It works ok for the lead bullets, sucks for the FMJ's. Never had a problem with the one for the rifles. I have a couple of real presses now and the .45 kit is collecting dust. With all this "gun control" talk, I've not heard one politician say how they plan on taking guns from criminals, just law abiding Citizens.

I have the whack-a-mol'e loader for 38spcl, 357 mag, 44 mag, 30-30 WIN, 30-06, 308, and 7.62x54R. Actually the 7.62 Russian is good to have as a neck sizer since Redding does not make a neck sizer for that caliber. I used this till a got the Hornady neck sizer for 30 cal. Here is the link to the Hornady die and I highly recommend it: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...tNumber=116484
Aside from loading a bit of ammo while at a campsite to pass some time or a need for ZEN type handloading (which I sometimes still do), I would much rather spend the extra $$ dollars $$ on a cheap Lee single stage and some dies.

Lee makes a single stage press for $29
Add in the dies for $28 and you're in business.
You really need a scale and a dial caliper too if you don't have them already.
EDIT: Grafs.com has the same press for $29 or the press with the Lee reloading manual for $33.
The easiest, most convenient bench mounted priming tool ever. Symmetrical design allows effortless right or left hand operation. Comfortable lever with just the right amount of mechanical advantage effortlessly seats even the most difficult primers with just finger pressure. The perfect mechanical advantage to feel
The dies are $29 and the nice thing about Grafs is that the shipping is only about $5 per order.Last edited by bumpo628; 02-08-2011, 6:25 PM.Ronald Reagan once said that the most terrifying words in the English language are: "I'm from the government and I'm here to help".

Nowhere near as cheap and I don't know if they have one for .40, but Wilson makes hand dies. More expensive than a lee hand press and dies though.
I love hand dies. I use them with an arbor press. It's the old school way to do benchrest.Left, not "liberal", not what gets called "left" in American politics, Actually Left, like the government shouldn't be set up to favor certain groups, radically and fanatically left, like the ideas in the American Constitution (except that crap about 3/5ths of a person).Comment

I feel the same way about the Wilson dies. I have complete sets in a number of calibers and seaters in others. Great way to handload great precision ammo.
What type of arbor press do you run?

Harbor Freight with some bronze shims to clean up the wiggle. I've also done good work on a drill press with a lathe-turned steel pad (disk with a shank) in the chuck. I really want one of those swanky looking Sinclair ones, but I have too many wants.Left, not "liberal", not what gets called "left" in American politics, Actually Left, like the government shouldn't be set up to favor certain groups, radically and fanatically left, like the ideas in the American Constitution (except that crap about 3/5ths of a person).Comment
