    .223 brass to trade

Well, my buddies and I are taking the re-loading plunge. We bought the gear and will be getting some instruction/help. So far, we have a shortage of materials. We need bullets, primers, powder. But we have an endless supply of brass! One of our group gets once fired .223 crimped brass from a shooting institution. Its mostly Lake City with the red sealant rings.

We are cleaning them up now, and we'll get em swaged.

I was tasked with looking into possibly trading some for the items we need.

So come on guys... watcha got? PM me with some 223 re-load stuff you'd like to trade.

We really are not looking at selling the stuff, were hoping to get to meet some of you and trick you into givin us some advice!

We havent even started counting the cases, but we will end up with garbage cans full of fired brass by end of this month, with more comming. The swaging will take awhile

We are only looking for 223 materials... since we are new AR freaks.

If you haven't already, you may wish to invest in a dial caliper and depending on how much brass you have, a Gracey case trimmer. Yeah, it costs a few bucks, but man it beats the Dillon case trimmer I have since it also chamfers the case mouth.

As for components.. Sometimes you can get ahold of surplus WC844 for $100/8# or H335 for quite a bit more. Some of the surplus places offer free hazmat depending on how many 8#'ers you buy. At 26 gr per cartridge, an 8 pounder will get you... approx 2150 rounds. The hard part these days is getting ahold of bullets. A lot of sources are dried up due to war production. Small rifle primers are not as scarce. Winchester and Remington are mostly available while CCI and Federals can sometimes be in short supply.

Hmm, what kind of "shooting institution" gives away free military brass?

It would probably be easier and less hassle to just sell the excess brass on Ebay. Then you can buy whatever you want.

But then we couldnt be re-loading nerds ( as my wife refers to it). Seriously, its not the money, we have thousands of rounds stored up already... white box, guat,AE, etc. WE just thought it would be cool to reload some and we were trying to find a way to get some of the materials in trade. But sounds like this kind of stuff doesnt happen much so we'll just have to buy it!

I was thinking of like 2000 cases for 1000 bullets, or 4000 cases for a 8# keg or 1000 cases for 1000 primers... something like that.

Oh well, off to midway I go!

              Thanks for the replies.

True, but when you said "endless supply" I took that to be free as not many people have an "endless supply " of cash to buy an "endless supply" of brass.

Take some pics of your "processed" brass.... they will be of some value, if they are sized, trimmed, swaged, and cleaned/polished.
