    Lee Progressive 1000 Help

Well I have a new Lee Progressive 1000.

To me the assembly instructions seemed a little vague, but as far as I can tell I have it set up correctly.

On each pull of the lever the shell plate does not move.

Should it be moving right off the bat with no adjustments?

Any help would be great. Thanks!

Hmm. My shell plate turned right out of the box. However; I think recall seeing a video on youtube where the guy shows how to disengage the part that turns the shell plate. Might hunt around on there a bit. sflberal has some very detailed videos on cleaning the pro1000. He may address that in one of them. His handle on here is cowboy t. I'm sure either he or some one else more experienced than me will jump in with an answer for ya. Good luck.

Might play around with the adjustment screw on bottom left of the shell plate carrier.

        I'll take it

I'd google: San Francisco Liberal with a Gun

The blog that pops up should have a video of taking apart a pro1000, and as the other poster said, may give you some insight.

Yeah I have the dies on and cannot get it to work either way. I've watched Cowboy T's video but maybe I'll have to re-watch the portion that has to do with the shell plate closely. I've tried adjusting the screw and it does not turn the shell plate when I turn it.

I seem to remember there's a modification on a...ratchet piece? For if the shell plate doesn't index far enough. I know that's not your problem, but that piece could be missing.

Alright!! I made it work. I knew it had to have something to do with the shell plate so I watched the video and took it apart. The hex ratchet was split and I was very dissapointed (thought I would have to order and wait) and was then pleased to see it came with two extras. Once I got that replaced and reassembled it seems to be running just fine. Thanks for the help folks!

The Pro 1000 is a good press and is not hard to figure out how it works.
About that adjustment screw, make sure it is adjusted so the rod that pushes the primers up is centered just right. I also will frequently check that the primer feed ramp is always full. You may need to tap on the circular primer reservior from time to time to keep them flowing.
These machines can crank out a lot of good ammo at low cost. Mine has made many thousands.

They send 2 with each carrier because they often break or strip out. You really need to keep an eye out for punched primers between the carrier and the top of the base with these. Just 1 will keep the carrier from going all the way down and seating new primers to depth and you may not notice until you inspect your reloads. You take a real chance of a BANG if you try to reseat primers on loaded ammo. And pulling 300 rnds is no fun. Just check under the carrier when you pull the handle down.

The screw moves the shelplate slightly to center it. It must be adjusted correctly.

                      .
I hear this a lot. But really, it's internet myth. The results of a bang are far worse if one went off, but there's really no MORE chance of it going off loaded or not. If one was going to go off while seating a loaded round, it would go off seating in empty brass.

In short. The likelihood of one going off is the same, no matter the condition of the brass. The consequences of one going off loaded is far worse.
