    sorting brass by make

i've been saving my .40 brass for a long time, and finally got setup to reload.

not sure where i read it, but it was said that you should separate your brass by make, and lot number even. that seems extreme, but maybe for building an accuracy load i guess.

so, do you sort your brass by who makes it?

between remmington, winchester, blazer, fib, speer, etc... is there any better brass than the others?

if you were going to buy loaded rounds with reloading in mind, which brand do you lean towards?

For Pistol I do not sort my brass. For Rifle I sort between LC, I mix all other Mil Spec brass together and then all commercial brass like RP, Win, and toss out all FC (Federal) that crap always goes out after one reload or two at the most so why even bother trimming it and spending time and money on it.

Pretty much all pistol brass should be good to use, just watch out for berdan primed cases as it will mess up your decapping pin!

I do not sort by brand. In addition I mix all my brass together, so I have some that have been shot 20 plus times and some that has been shot once. In handgun rounds I doubt you're a good enough shot for the brand of brass to matter. I know I'm not that good. For precision rifle rounds it sure couldn't hurt sorting.

I like Winchester brass the best.

Some suggest sorting your pistol cases when starting out so you are loading a consistent case as you start reloading. It just helps eliminate one more variable as you are getting started.

it is good to sort out ones that may give you problems

such as crimped pockets, amerc brass, s&B

i treat all rem, win, fed, cbc, magtech, fiocci, gfl, cci, speer the same when it comes to pistol brass

I don't sort pistol brass at all.
You'll likely lose it before the primer pocket loosens or the case mouth cracks.
