Who loads on a LCT? update w/ pics

I need to know what I'd need to load on a LCT besides the press and dies.

Links to midway would be great if you have the time.

I believe I'll need a powder measure, but IDK which one. Do I need a riser? Primer assembly?

    Thanks
    Chris

I just posted something similar in another thread..

These links are for the 3-hole turret, spare turret, powder measure, hand primer, and hand primer shellholders. The lee hand primer does use different shell holders than the press, but the set plus the primer is cheaper than other brand primers. Lee die sets all come with their own turret shellholder.

You only need a riser if the seater stem sticks up too high. This does not happen with most Lee die sets.

I bought a Classic Turret (4 holes) for $85, from these guys: https://factorysales.com/html/company.html, very good prices, good service.

I would get the Auto Disk dispenser like Bumpo has pictured, but I would also get the Auto Disk Pro update kit for it. The Auto Disk Pro comes with a chain return and is for the progressive presses, so getting the AD and the Pro update gets you a setup that will work on the Turret and also get the benefits of the AD Pro unit.

I like the Lee Safety Prime (mounts on the press and works with the presses priming system). It takes a little attention when setting up, but works great once you get the hang of it.

Like Bumpo said, if you are not using Lee dies, you will need shellholder for the calibers you are loading.

I would get a riser for the Auto Disk dispenser, they are like $8, eliminates any interference issues.

Lol, I do have a Dillon. I also have a Lyman, and two RCBS's. I picked up the Lee Classic Turret the other day just to mess around with. I figure I'll use it for odd calibers that I don't reload that much or things like swaging, universal de-capping, etc... I'm really interested in how it will load 223.

Plus I really like to teach people to reload, so I'd thought it would be worth having on the bench.

Let's try it this way. I'll post what I think I need:
                Powder Measure:

                Riser:

                Primer assembly:

Press and dies. Anything I'm missing?
                Do I need this?

                Or this?

Pretty much, that's what my OP says

As you can see, Lee makes a bunch of little things and I don't know if I need them. Like the Riser, or adj powder charge bar.

I'm very familiar with Dillon, RCBS, and others, but this will be my first Lee.

I have an old three hole Lee Turret that I'm going to have to find room for on my reloading bench (2 Dillons, Redding and Lyman turrets already set up) since I have a 458 on order and I'm building a 260.

The AD Pro you have pictured has a chain pull return. The standard Auto Disk has an integral spring return, which works with the turret setup.

You can use the standard Auto Disk (rectangular hopper) and if it was like mine when it came just will need a little tweaking to get right. If you buy one of the standard auto disk units and the Pro upgrade kit, you get a spring return setup (required for the turret), but the Pro hopper setup.

                      Here are the MW links:

The chain and lever parts of the update kit won't be used.

Or this? Lee Auto-Disk Adjustable Powder Charge Bar
The press comes with one turret and a large / small primer tool.
For additional calibers, buy extra turrets & powder measures to make it easy to switch.

You don't want to get the Pro measure that you have pictured since it is chain operated and for use on the Lee 1000 progressive. For the turret, stick with the powder measure that I linked to since it is actuated by the upstroke of the die when you bell the case. It comes with four disks too.

The press already comes with a primitive little single-primer if you want to load sequentially, but it is slow and tedious. If you want to load single stage, you'll find that the hand primer is much easier. I've never used the primer you have pictured, so maybe someone who has used it can explain how it works on the Lee Classic Turret. I thought that priming kit was for the single stage presses.

You only need the riser if you're using other brands of dies and they are tall.

You don't need the adjustable charge bar since the powder measure already comes with four disks and it gives you a wide variety of options for most pistol calibers. For rifles, you'll need to measure anyway.

Thanks bumpo, I'm starting to get this.
So I just need to get the cheaper powder measure and the riser (I'll be using all sorts of dies on it).

I already have an RCBS hand primer so I don't need the Lee one.

Still a little confused if I should get this:

Bill Steele might be right about that one. However, you can try the standard one as-is and see if you need it.

When you get the powder measure, you *may* need to do some adjusting to get it to stop leaking powder between the hopper and the disk. Depending on the shape of the powder and the gap between the hopper and the disk, some pieces (not a lot) of powder can slip out. You can lightly sand the edges of the base and that usually takes care of it. Sometimes you need to put a little graphite if you take too much off. I've had some that worked fine and others that needed adjusting. Try it and see, buy the update kit if you need it.

                              Exactly right.

The update kit gives you the twist on/off hopper, the wiper seal between the hopper and the disk (which is why you might need to sand the regular hopper near where it mounts to the base to reduce the gap between the hopper and disk as it doesn't have this seal) and the studs and brass nuts that hold the hopper assembly on the base (the standard auto disk has wood style screws to hold the hopper onto the base, which can strip when you have changed the disks one too many times). The charge bar lets you get charges more precisely between the different disk sizes.

All in all, the Pro update kit is just a few nice to have features and not critcal to getting started.
