Why does BPS copy my license for buying powder?

Pretty new to reloading. I went to Bass Pro Shop today and picked up some powder.

The guy said he had to photo copy my driver's license, but could not tell me why, except that it's just a Bass Pro Shop thing.

Does any other place do this?

Not that I know of. I've bought powder from the Stockade in Westminster, they didn't ask me for any ID even. Hell, they didn't even have a modern credit card swiper. They used one of those really old credit card roller imprinter thingys. I doubt they even have a printer/scanner

Turner's does it too. It's because you're a criminal and they need to be able to track you down after you blow up a preschool

There are city and county laws which might be governing this practice. Otherwise, it's just a company policy thing and you are free to live with it or buy somewhere else.

            I bought

some Longshot over at Bass Pro in Rancho Cucamonga. Paid cash, no ID.

They even let me in the Powder room to see what they had in stock.

            Nice people.

I remember reading somewhere that the law limits how much powder and primers you can have in your home. I think it was 20 lbs of powder and 10K primers. Does that sound right?

It's not a bass pro thing, I bought pounds and pounds of powder at the Manteca bass pro ever since their opening a while back...cash and carry.

Even after the AB962 crap , and they wrongfully pulled their powder off of the shelves to behind the counter...it was still cash and carry.

I havent bought any powder there since december , maybe they implemented their own imaginary AB962 powder registry this year...even though AB962 was tossed ????

I bought 8 lbs of smokeless powder from Angeles last week and they didn't ask for anything. I buy powder from them regularly and they have never asked for a copy of my dl. I think they might have asked me to see my ID when I bought pistol powder but no copy.

That is CA State Health and Safety Code.
