    Need advice about older ammo

I will probably be buying a 1982 Ruger Security Six .357mag. and a 1981 Ruger Redhawk .44 magnum, both in SS. The seller is my older brother's former SIL and we have known each other for over 30yrs. We still see each other at family gatherings are good acquaintances.

The guns and ammo were her deceased husband's who died back around that time. Per her, he took really good care of the guns and the pics seem to show that.

Question: She has an unknown amount of factory ammo of each caliber. It has been stored in a safe. What would be a fair price per round to pay for each caliber round if anyone knows. She has no intention of charging me store prices and I have no intention of taking advantage of her. Any idea from you ammo experts.

I'm hoping to go look at the guns and ammo today. Thank you for your responses in advance.

$5 per 50 rounds of the 357 and maybe a little more for the 44 would be fair IMO.

Is that because the ammo is old because I just called Walmart and they charge $27 for 50 of their least expensive .357 FMJ ammo.

It is $33 for a box of 50 of their least expensive .44 magnum ammo.

If my math is correct, that is $.54 cents per round for the .357 and $.66 per round for the .44mag.

Ya, that's what I was thinking. If I found some old ammo I didn't need or a good buddy found some he didn't need, I think around $5 a box would be fair. It's hard to say what it's really worth.

I do know I can reload 357 mag for less than $5 a box, so that's why I said $5.

Really just guessing out my butt

You could go $8 and $12. It's nowhere near current ammo prices, but I'd be willing to bet it's more than that stuff cost new. Probably a decent deal on both sides.
