Red Line Ballistics-still around? Hard Cast boolits

Picked up a 500pc. box of 230gr 45acp hard cast bullets today. Made by Redline, I was doing a internet search for loading info. and I didn't have much luck. Other than running across old forums stating that they were out of business in San Diego. I guess they make reloaded ammo up in Sacramento, but they stopped making the cast boolits.

Anyone have info where I can find specific reloading information. I can just use the recipe from my Lyman, but I was hoping to hear input from someone with experience.

I can still buy them from a couple sources. I also looked for info. There is a thread on Calguns somewhere. I have no idea what's up.

As for load info, I just use starting loads for that type bullet. Load down a little to be safe.

I use them for light target loads in an N frame S&W .357 and Ruger KP90 so not too much worry here...

AFAIK, they are still in business in San Diego, both at the Fairmount and Southbay locations. I don't have the phone number here, but I can get it.

yeah dennis original guy sold the cast bisness and does only relaods now

I bought 2k reloads from him last fall in Rancho Cordova (I think, right around there) out of his office. I also saw him at the Roseville gun show in December.

Well I loaded up 20 rounds and took them to the indoor range. This is my first time shooting lead hard cast. I was suprised by the amount of smoke. I loaded them with Bullseye, 4.3gr. Accuracy was very good. Not so sure about the smoking, is it just the wax burning off, or lead? Cases look great, not even really dirty, ready to be reloaded again. Guess I will do another search.

Cast boolits are gonna shoot a bit dirtier than jacketed. Bullseye is also considered "dirty." So yeah, you're gonna get some smoke. Hopefully not too much of the cast boolit will stay behind in your barrel...

You might find that Winchester 231 will be less smoky. I first tried Titegroup, but the local Indians thought I was sending them smoke signals. After switching to 231, it was a lot less smoke.

Somebody told me (I have not verified) that the high nitro content of Titegroup caused it to burn hotter and vaporize the wax. I have no idea if that's right, but it sounds good.

Bullseye is also known as "Flaming Dirt"......hahahah..

Alonzo (A&M Precision in San Diego) unfortunately let his FFL expire. He is in the process of renewing everything. Look at a few more months before he is up and running again.

Bullseye is smokie but you are also getting to the high end of the load for 230gr lead / wax lube with bullseye, drop it down to 4.0 and see how that works. (it should still get you about 780FPS)

If that still smokes to much there are better / cleaner powders

Yep Redline is still around. I talked to Alonzo 5 months back. It's just too bad he does not sell moly coated cast bullets like Bear Creek. No smoke with moly coating.

Really? My Lyman manual specs out that the grain range is 4.0-5.0. I thought that my loads felt very soft already. Not sure if I want to go any lower, guess I will try WST, since I have a pound sitting around.

Yea I wanted to get some Bear Creek bullets, but everywhere is out of stock, and I read on another forum they went out of business in 2007.
