    reloading .25acp worth it?

    I know that reloading generally saves money, but I know that's not true of all calibers. Is .25acp one of those non-cost-saving rounds that isn't worth the effort unless all factory ammo is cleaned out???

      From Lyman's 49th Edition
      "Due to it's small size, the 25 ACP is rather difficult to reload. It has never been widely regarded as a handloader's cartridge and bullet selection is not extensive. Charge weights for the 25 ACP are quite small. Shooters should take care not to accidentally double-charge cases with powder."

        I've got hands like a Navy proctologist and trying to work with cases smaller than .45 is just frustrating.

          Gotta compare factory ammo price per round to combined cost of components.

          Bullet will be harder to find than standard calibers. Figure 8-10 cents per for bullet. Primer will cost 2 cents, powder figure 3 cents. Brass cost will be the last variable.

          15 cents without brass per round. Add brass cost and compare to cost per round for loaded ammo.

          Also, if you shoot loaded ammo with good brass, after a while you will have all the brass you need. At that point it's all about bullet, powder and primer cost versus loaded ammo cost.

          Here are a few item costs.

          Col. Le Mat – Jean François Alexander Le MatStøckel:  born 1824 in Paris, moved 1840 to New Orleans, receives 1856 patent for his revolver where the base / cylinder pin is also used as a buckshot barrel. pretty sure a pound would last for a very long time with .25acp

              i haven't been able to find much in the way of bulk bullets or brass.....although i'm sure i'd probably go with buying factory ammo and saving the brass if i had a .25acp and wanted to reload it.

              anyone out there actually reload .25acp wanna chime in about the cost difference???

                I searched for 25 ACP components on MidwayUSA:
                Brass = $131 / K
                Bullets = $93 / K
                Lee 3 die set = $28

                I also found an auction on gunbroker. The guy is selling 1150 reloaded rounds for $170. Of course he is recommending that you disassemble them and use the components. You should fertilize the lawn with the powder and start over. That brings the price for the bullets, brass, and primers to $0.15 each. Pulling 1150 bullets is no small feat, tho.

                So, either way you go you will save money by reloading.

                    You could always deprime the cases. Take a while, but I'd do it.
