So I finally got my case drop and AP Lock and load working just right. In two days Ive stuck two cases of .223. Im using the Hornady dies and both dies still have the case stuck in them. Im using one shot,dried. Im also using oil every ten cases. The odd part is every case before the stuck one was like butter! Its like I get a tough case or something. Any ideas? Ive got it to where Im rolling pretty good. I just need to get this part right.
I guess the good thing is for every die I screw up I get 100 rounds of bullets. So its like Im paying for the bullets. LOL

Shoot that can of one shot. Google it, one shot = stuck cases. Use imperial wax or dillon's lube.

One shot is all I use, and it works great. I usually resize 500 cases at a time and have never had a problem with it. This is the first I've heard about it not working.

Only stuck cases I have ever had in .223 were directly attributable to RCBS small base dies or Hornady One-Shot lube. Once I switched to Dillon or Redding dies (Hornady are good dies too) AND Dillon lanolin based lube I have never had another stuck case.

Also, remember that too much lube can stick a case due to hydraulic lock. Adding oil here may have been the straw that broke the camels back

I've been using One Shot because it was pretty easy and mess-free. The only time I got a stuck case is when I got the brilliant idea that when I lube every case it size so smoothly, maybe I should try lubing every other case... DON'T DO IT!!

PS. This is what I use to remove my stuck case... RCBS Stuck Case Remover. Or you can send it back to Hornady and they will remove it for it (did this before I discover the tool). They did it for me for free... TWICE!

I feel ya. I destroyed my decapper/expander rod on my Hornady die just the other day trying to get out a stuck case. I left a technical question thru the Hornady site asking about what parts I needed to order to get the die up and running again.....just got a reply this morning......they are sending me a replacement expander/decapper rod for free!! Nice.

I did this:

Clean dirt and powder residue from inside case necks and simultaneously add a light coating of case lube with a case neck brush. This will reduce the resizing effort and prevent excess working of the brass. Roll the brush across the lube pad after every three or four cases for just the right amount.

When I recently loaded some 30-06. I was using the RCBS case lube, lube pad, and neck brush that all came with the kit.

Regardless of your case lube preference, clean your dies! They get gunked up pretty easily. Disassemble the die and use some bore cleaner on q-tips - works great.

I know some guys have no problems with One Shot, but some definitely do. Why not eliminate the possibility by using Imperial wax? It's cheap, works and lasts a long time.

And, yeah, everyone should have (or make) a stuck case removal tool. Even the best handloaders will stick a case once in a blue moon.

One shot case lube is all i've been using for .223 on my LNL AP, and so far it's worked great. Did you tumble and clean your brass first?

Yes, I just got back with Hornaby Unique case lube. Im going to give this a try.

About the stuck second die. Contact Hornady. I know that RCBS will for $5.00 to cover the shipping will remove a stuck case and refurbish the die. Perhaps Hornaday will due the same after is is their lube too.

Too much lube is more often the problem than too little

Too much causes hydraulic lock and can create buildup in the dies that causes sticking.

Lube lightly, swab out your dies after every couple hundred rounds and you should be good to go.

DO NOT lube each case individually, spread 100+ cases in a cut down cardboard box, spritz a small amount of lube over them, shake and repeat the light spritz, shake again and let sit for a minute or two and then load. If the cases are very wet or drenched, you are over-lubing. Cases should have a very light coating at most. Swab the inside of the case mouth of the first few cases you run with a brush with some lube on it. This will provide all the case mouth lube needed for several hundred rounds.

Keep your dies clean!

I use the same stuff as you.
Hornady press and one shot.
I also use small bass dies.
Yet I have no problems.
I put my brass in a cardboard box lined up against one side and spray at a 45 degree angle to get "some" spray inside the case neck.

These right here.

Clean those dies from time to time, the Q_tip with some solvent like Hoppes will do it most times. I've also found that mineral spirits will make almost any lube go away, FAST. (Works amazing on a case lube pad BTW, looked and felt like new).

I've yet to stick a case, I've stuck a bullet to a seater plug, but never a case, and I don't relish the thought. However, the warranties that are offered by damn near every manufacturer of reloading gear is such that you can call them up, send it in and they'll fix,clean,refit and send it back to you.
