    Oddball Caliber - Got Burned???

Anyone here purchase a firearm in oddball caliber and got burned? Either hard to find ammo or too costly? i.e. 50 AE

If you buy a gun that shoots 50AE without checking how expensive that stuff is 1st, I wouldn't call that getting burned... I could see getting burned due to rising ammo cost.

I don't have any oddballs...just keep to standard rounds:

      22lr
      380ACP
      38 Sp
      357 mag
      44 mag
      9mm
      45ACP
      223 Rem
      308 Win
      30-06
500 S&W (this could be an oddball)

50AE isn't that bad. Try finding 41AE loaded ammo. Hell, try finding 41AE brass.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

          Yeah,
Any gun that shoots pistol rounds. Got burned by being born in California and not having the common sense to move out. Now I'm stuck here.

But at least I now reloading.

.30 Carbine is about the most oddball I have, that round costs an average of $.40 a round for anything half-decent, the ammo for it is almost a novelty, being that it is ballistically inferior in stopping power, range, cost, and availability vs. the 7.62x39 (.30 carbine is 7.62x33), not to mention the brass is fairly rare and worth it's weight in gold, almost like .45 ACP brass.

I ain't touching that steel cased Wolf junk, reloads are a better alternative, I guess I better load my own, cuz my carbine takes a back seat in the gun safe.

I have an old Steyr Hahn in "9mm steyr." I bought it because it was in a weirdo proprietary caliber. I like to be different.

Depends on what you call oddball. I reload so it is hard to find something centerfire I cannot load my own for.

My nephew just inherited a 30-338 mauser
No ammo ever available - all 338 lapua necked down

Ouch, that must cost big bucks to shoot. 338 lapua is $90 for 20 rounds...30-338 must cost an arm and a leg to make.

How would one be "burned"? It would be that person's own fault for not researching their purchase properly BEFORE making it.

I have a 32-20, 25-20, 7.62x38R and 7.5 Nagant which are all not easy to find cheap ammo for. But, they are not as expensive as some of the bigbore safari rifle rounds.

It doesn't have to be somebody else's fault to get burned.
I bought my Jericho 941. Two calibers, 41AE looks good. .40S&W came out right after, and 41 AE died out. so did I get burned? Maybe, but it's still my fault if so. Fortunately the gun also takes 9mm, so no real problem there.
