    carbide sizer adjustment

the destructions on my RCBS 45acp carbide die set says to "screw the sizer die into the press until the die touches the top of the shell holder when the shell holder is brought up to the top of the press stroke. tighten the die lock ring. DO NOT CAM OVER on a carbide sizing die!"

when i move the press handle to it lowest position, the ram is a fraction of an inch below its uppermost position. in order to "screw the sizer die into the press until the die touches the top of the shell holder when the shell holder is brought up to the top of the press stroke" i have to hold the press handle in just the right position whilst simultaneously screwing in the die until it touches the shell holder. if i do it with the press handle down at its lowest position, there will be a small amount of "cam out" on the press, not as much as if i were to follow the steel sizer die instructions, but cam out nonetheless.

I set it up with the ram at top position, not handle at lowest position. is this correct?

Yes, no cam-over allowed on carbide dies. They will eventually crack if there is any appreciable cam-over.

when you push down all the way and the ram touches the die, then you have that 1-2" of handle travel after, and you can feel it bump.....

Glad i now know this before I buy a carbide set of .40/10mm dies.

I've got all RCBS greenbox dies, so I set them down for the cam-over.

You can set them the same as carbide. How ever if there is some camover your dies will be OK

A little tiny bit of cam-over on carbide is OK, but only a very small amount. Any appreciable amount of cam-over will crack a carbide die sooner or later!
