    price on lead....

i have a lot of lead ingots...enough that my f-250 is just about bottomed out....what is lead going for these days? scrap is .20/lb and i have seen it as high as 1.50/lb.....some of it is marked the ratio, but most of it is just smelted and i have no idea what it is. i even have lead tube that phones used to run through....

    any help would be awsome!

The going rate is about a $1 a pound....and the seller pays shipping.
To save money use a flat rate box from the Post Office.

As long as it has no zinc in it, it is good to go. It would be nice to know the hardness...or what is it from.

For an example....I just paid $52 for 52 pounds of melted and cleaned wheel wheights.

    Take care

I've seen prices from $1 to $3 per pound, but you'd have to be stupid to pay $3. But if you wanted to price high and sit on it you probably could.

Are you talking about your local scrapyard? Or is there a website?

looks like i got enough info to put this up for sale.

                thanks guys!

The larger USPS one price box needs to be doubled and reinforced to insure one piece delivery. The ingots need to be packed tight and keep the box a few pounds below maximum weight.
Unknown mix is only worth scrap price. Nothing screws up the mix like a zinc wheel weight.

i know some coffee cans say hard lead (from wheel weights) others say soft. but i have a 30 gal drum of lead. it is all in bricks. couldnt you just test the hardness and it can tell you most ofthe "info" about it?

You can get a lead hardness tester from $50-$150. They are designed to test bullet sized objects, but you could shave a flat spot on a small piece to test. Test and segregate the lead by hardness into 50-60 lb lots.

If you provide the Brinell hardness of the lead on each lot that you sell, people will be able to make an informed decision about whether or not it will suit their needs. Pure lead is too soft for bullets, but it could be alloyed or used for shotgun slugs.

You can test the hardness but you can't test the mixture or amount of unwanted of contaminents. as I said, zinc, zamak and others increase hardness but spoil the mix for casting.
