I'm in the same boat, so I'd like to add a bit of color the OP's thread...not trying to threadjack!
I have all my equipment now, will probably start using it this weekend, so I can't speak from any experience, but what I'd like to know, is that when you are "working up" a load, is most of reloading a trial and error (though hopefully you stay away from error as much possible) until you find what you like?
I'm thinking the best recipe is one from the book to try out first, then experiment using known quantities; then graduate into unknowns (bullets&weights, powders, etc) is this what reloading folks primarily do?
Or do most folks like to stick by the books and operate essentially out of the parameters of what reloading manuals state? The permutations must truly be endless though!!!
I ask mostly out of safety...just wanting to know if MOST reloaders (at least on this forum) are by the book and not experimenters or vice versa. Equal mix?
Thanks -

My Lee 2nd edition book has lots of 9 loads (some not so good, as I have found).
If you can tell me what bullets you want to shoot, I can post what the Lee book says, or you could just buy one and have them all.

I have the Hornady and Speer manuals, and both of them have lots of load data for 9mm. I also have a giveaway manuals from Alliant, Hodgdon, and a couple of manufacturer's whos names escape me now, that came with my press. They're all a wealth of data, much better than the manufacturer's websites.I've never seen an American flag burned at a gun show.Comment

Not perfect.
If you do get the Lee book, which I generally like, the AA #7 loads for plated and jacketed 115 grain bullets are light. The lead loads for this powder in similar weights is much closer to the mark. Plus the Alliant site has confirming advice. When asked what qualities he most valued in his generals, Napoleon said, "give me lucky ones."Comment

By the book. I don't own a crusher gauge, crusher gun or even a strain gauge. Heck, I can't even check for burn rates on my own, I have to go to the reloading manuals.Comment

Hodgdon site has lots of loads for Hodgdon, IMR and Winchester powders. And as previously stated, you can use data for same weight bullets with different profiles.
