    Need Brass?

Thanks to another CalGunner, I found this need Gov't Surplus site.

Anyone need 7,000 lbs of brass?

LOT (7, 000 LBS. APPROXIMATELY) FIRED BRASS TO INCLUDE: 40MM, MIXED 7. 62, 20MM & MORE. PURCHASER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL SPILLS AND USE OF ABSORBENTS AND WORKING IN A SAFE AND NEAT ENVIRONMENT. 24 HOUR NOTICE REMOVAL REQUIRED. PROPERTY LOCATED AT DRMO SCRAP YARD: 32ND STREET, NATIONAL CITY, CA. POINT OF CONTACT, WILSON GAOIRAN: (949)279-8656

We could store it at the CalGuns Warehouse!!!

Then we could have a REAL reloading BBQ party.

The CalGuns warehouse idea has been floated before.

It kinda runs against my nature as a capitalist, but it could be run as a co-op. Agree to donate so much of your time loading ammo, trimming brass, swaging, etc. for a better price on remanufactured ammo.

Powder, brass, primer and bullet buys could be pooled to bring down costs.

Additional high demand items could be bought in bulk.

      Any other suggestions?

I was going to bid on one that was up here in Northern Cali about a month and half ago. I waited for about 20 days and had another 10 day to go on the auction before they pulled it off. It was for about 13,000lbs. Not to sure why they pulled it off? It would be a good deal for anybody that gets it.

If you have more money than China, then you have a chance at winning. If not it's getting put on a boat.

Now, that's quitting before you even get in the fight.

Even if you do lose the auction, you drive up the price a little and the Gov't makes/recovers a little more money.

Ya see, you'll be doing your country a service....

I don't see why we should have to compete with any foreign entities....since we paid for the stuff in the first place

I wonder if there is a market for the .50 cal cases? I wonder if it would be worth it after shipping? either in scrap or in resale of the cases?

If you actually watch these various brass auctions you will see that they get bids in the last few hours. The most recent auctions are selling for $2.4 to $2.8/lb as that is the current market prices for this brass. This particular auction (looks to be worthless for reloading as most is 20mm/40mm shells) will sell for at least $16,000. Probably a lot more than that.

For bidding, one needs to submit at least $10,000 up front. Also this auction doesn't say anything about not requiring mutilation. Otherwords, the buyer will be forced to destroy this brass (scrap it) and use it for other uses. When these auction (only some) allow for resale of the small arms brass, they typically state "mutilation is not required" in the post.

                            Like this one:

But while one is not required to scrap this particular auction, over 50% of it is worthless for reloading since they are blanks and dummy ammo.

Yes there is, as guys already do exactly that. Most of the .50 brass on the market is from these auctions, and there is a good supply out there. They sell for upwards of $.75-$.80/case if cleaned and sorted. As received from the auction cases sell in the $.55-$.65/case range.
