    New guy recipe help

I'm brand new to reloading and I'm unable to find a recipe for the following:

I was told by Hornady that the max overall length for an AR is 2.250 to accomade the magazine

    This is what I have:

    Winchester Ball Powder 748

    Hornady Match 75Gr BTHP

    .224

    Remington small rifle primers

    Remington new unfired brass

The question is how much powder? The recipe I have in my book shows the OAL to be much larger than the max for an AR. Where can I look for this information or does anyone have it?

I was unable to find any data for a bullet that heavy with 748. I would recommend a lighter bullet, 75 gr. is pretty heavy for a common AR barrel, unless you have a fast barrel. For future reference, here is a good site with lots of data for Hodgdon, IMR and Winchester powders: http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp I'm sure you will find it most useful.

Thank you very much. M6A3 with a 1/7 Barrel is what I'm shooting so it should throw the round well.

Maybe this will help, it refers to your question exactly:

That's not going to be easy data to find. I don't have any. By using my extra sensory extrapolation skills, I think 24gr would be probably be a safe starting point. But if you blow yourself up don't blame me

I used 25.1gr of 748 with 55gr bullets and it's works really well. Kind of dirty but meters like water.

          Good luck in finding data.

That last link had some great data! Thank you so much guys. I'm going to load a min load per the Hornady specs and see what happens.

For the record I did not see that link before I typed my post, and according to AR15barrels, 24gr should work fine. My extrapolation skills are working well today

Everything was going great until my brand spanking new press quit auto indexing all the way. Apparently I need to be calling Horndady or get someone more experienced to look at my setup. Of course now there's powder and torn up primers all over.

There are adjustments for the indexing at the bottom of the press. Just adjust them a little, it'll fix it.
