flat nose vs standard ball ammo?

I notice Winchester white boxes come in flat nose and your standard ball shape in the .45 ACP. I believe .40S&W as well but not 100% sure on that yet. For range practice, which of the two designs would be better in a Glock 21?

Flat nosed rounds are made for target practice if I remember correctly from a TV show I saw lol. They make them that way so it's easier to tell where they went in or something. Not sure either would be better /shrug FMJ are probably gonna be more readily available but I wouldn't not shoot the flat nose if they were cheap enough I guess. Just get Tula, Wolf or Herters if you're looking for cheap ammo. On-line kinda sucks do to shipping charges and crap but I have been finding Tula alot at Walmart and then on-line I think Buds, Bass Pro shops + you off-brand retailers on-line but that's a crap shoot as really who knows who them dudes are. Some random searched website lol ya know what i mean?

IIRC, .40 S&W uses flat nose bullets to keep the OAL down so that it can feed properly in frames and mags that are designed for 9mm.

As for .45ACP, I'm not sure why you would use a flat nosed bullet. Were they wadcutters?

Definitely go with flat nose. They have more inherent stability over round nose. When I switched from RN to TCFP(Truncated Cone Flap Point) groups shot from a rest shrunk considerably. Plus they have a tendency to punch nice wadcutter-like holes for easier scoring.

For most pistol distances, you likely will not notice a whole lot of difference in the shape of the nose. The most accurate target bullets are generally full wadcutters (look like a soup can) that are fired at modest velocity (under 800 fps) out of 38 special revolvers. People say this or that kind is inherently more accurate thanthe next, but I believe most people can't really tell the difference.. To give you an idea, I use long round nose bullets in my revolver not due to any inherant accuracy, they just plain feed better in a moon clip of 6 of them than the flat points or hollow points do.. I get about 6" accuracy out of them to 50 yards which is the max distance I generally will shoot anything at. Most of my shots are under 35 yards and I can't tell the difference between HP, RN, FP, etc..

For feeding in a Glock.. I've shot RN, HP, FP, etc.. you really need to shoot a few types to see what YOUR gun likes and stick with it.. Cheap ammo can somtimes be accurate, most times cheap ammo will be less accurate than the mid range or better stuff. It may not even have to do with bullet profile.. the quality of the components generally counts more.

A lot of people feel that a flat nose bullet will transfer more energy to the target, and that a round nose bullet that is not made to expand has the ability to slip through tissue, while doing minimum damage.

I agree with that theory.....from my observations while hand gun hunting.

While it's true a flat nose bullet, or even a wide flat nose bullet transfers more energy into game (I'm with you on this) the OP was asking about range ammo, so the flat nose vs round nose vs hp is a moot point. Pick what works in your gun, and stick with it.
