    Quick Primer Question

I'm about to place an order on Powder Valley for some powder and primers.

I just wanted to make sure I got the right primers. I'm getting the CCI number 34 and 41, which are the military primers for some .223 and 30-06 that I am going to load up. I read a post on here that the military primers are supposed to prevent slam fires.

    Is that right guys?

I think maybe slam fire resistant is more accurate. Those primers do not make slam fires impossible.

What projectile and charge weight of H4895 are you using?

I am probably going to get something like this...

I am going to keep the gr's around 150.

I'll start with the min load data from the Hodgdon web site, compare that with the min load data in the Lyman manual that I have and go from there.

                You have any recommendations?

EDIT: I'm using the Greek HXP cases from CMP.

The AMAX should work nicely. I have used Nosler 155HPBT bullets with 48gr of IMR 4895. This was with LC brass and CCI 41 primers. Note that you are using H4895 which is a little faster burning powder.

Yup, it was a tough decision between the two. The deciding factor was that the H4895 will supposedly meter better through my RCBS thrower. We'll see though. I am just now finishing up on building my bench. I also just recieved the RCBS Rock Chucker Kit in the mail yesterday.

I'm going to be busy over the weekend getting everything mounted and setup.

Welcome to the obsession, it only gets worse!

I got a Rock Chucker as a kid at 14 (1973) and still use it today for single stage precision loading of .308 and 30-06. You cannot go wrong with the RC.

Tell me about it. I'm on thin ice as it is with the wife right now, trying to get everything acquired.

Since I decided to build my own bench, I had to get a skilsaw, sander, few other things; which is another hobby I might get into.

I am going to have to shoot and reload a sh*tload before I recoup any of these costs.

I love it though. I am the kind of guy that likes to figure out how to do things on my own, instead of paying someone else to just do it. I figure these are skills that will help me in the long run.

I have to reload around 500 rounds per week for my rental business and I always enjoy it immensely. I'm sure you will too. Just take your time, check every detail and you'll be safe. Post up pics of your bench when it's done:
