9mm load puzzler

I have been loading some 9mm Berry's in 115gr Copper plated RN.

My Lee book says 6.6gr Accurate #7 start and 7.3gr Max for plated Copper in 115gr.

The same book say 7.8gr Accurate #7 start, 8.7gr Max for lead in 115gr.

and

7.9gr Accurate #7 start, 8.8gr Max for jacketed 115gr.

This is a head scratcher for me. Any ideas?

Get another reference book or information source. I agree with joelogic something is not right with the information that your using.

That all sounds just about right compared to Accurate Arms own data sheets.

My Accurate Loading Guide No. 1 (from 1994) says:

115 Gr (Lead) 7.8 starting...8.7 Max

HDY 115 FMJ (Copper) 7.9 starting.....8.8 Max

My Lyman 49 edition *current 2008

115 Gr (copper JHP) (thats all) says:

6.8 to start......8.5 Max

All of these are Accurate No. 7.

Guys, thanks for the feedback.

Joe, the puzzling thing was how high the lead start/max load was compared jacketed loads. It just didn't make sense that the Copper Plated would be so much lower than lead or for that matter for the jacketed to be essentially the same as lead. But what do I know?

Anyway, I have three sources now and will start with the lowest.

I would trust the Accurate Arms load data. Not strange for jacketed and lead to be almost the same data.

I too load 9mm copper plated 115 grain and load data is hard to find. The Lee manual lists some as you know. It's hard to figurer out where it stands in relation with lead and jacketed. The Accurate web site lists no data on copper plated. Plated bullets are a cheaper alternative for guns that don't like lead. ie: Glock. What's a reloader to do?

I am following the Berry's site advice and keeping things between lead and jacketed. Of course, when some load specs are hotter for lead than jacketed, you get a feel for the state of the art.

It's all good though, I just start small and work up. Beats wondering what you are actually loading into that magazine as you open the next box.
