    newb question about powder

A friend and I are trying to figure out what our budget needs to be to start reloading .223... Everything is pretty cut and dry except powder, so I was wondering if some of you guys could give me an idea of how many rounds I can make on average of .223 per pound of powder?

A pound is 7000 grains. Divide 7000 by your powder charge.

About 25 grains(for a 55 gr. bullet) for several powders.

I load with 24.5gr of TAC, so that's about what I get out of a pound. Once you find a rifle powder that you like, you'll want to buy it by the 8lb jug, it goes fast.

Just be glad that you're not loading 50BMG. I load on the light side and I still use 218-225 grains per round.

On the cheaper side, I use 1.1 grains per round when I load 25 acp. A pound of red dot will last me a long time.

yeah theres a whole lot to this whole reloading thing, and far too many options and retailers for powder. Im having a real hard time pinning down one to start with. However my friend and I will be splitting the costs of everything to start off with the first 1000 rounds so it lessens the blow a bit.

                    Go with TAC.

I like A2230, it meters great! Look for a reloading calculator spreadsheet, or PM me your email address and I will send you one.

WW748 is also a good choice and probably the cheapest powder you will find, yet it is one of the acknowledged good ones for 55-69 grain bullets in .223

Figure 26.5 to 27 grains is average charge weight with WW748 under a 55gr.

Yes a 55gr bullet(Hornady SX or SP) with 27grs of Win748 and a mag primer(or reg if you must) and you get very small groups and fast speeds. I shoot this load in several 223 rifles/pistol.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.
