    Using Magnum primers??

I've already bought and used all the regular small rifle primers (CCI400) from local Turners (they only had 200). Is it ok to use magnum primers? I understand that I would need to use less powder but what difference does it make? I'm interested in consistency. CCI website shows that #32 & #41 (NATO/mil-spec) primers are also Magnum primers so I guess it would still work??

PS> Bermans in SB is closed till thursday, and when is what Bass-Pro shop opening up? $26 for 1lb of powder is not cheap.

How far are you from Angeles? They have a reloading store there.

Have you bought from Bermans before? What are their prices like?

Bass Pro opens on July 18, but I'm pretty sure any reloading products they sell will carry a markup similar to Turners.

Have you tried Centerfire Firearms on Central in Riverside? If you are ever in the Orange area, then you need to stop by Fowlers or The Stockade, both of which should have small rifle. One of the guys I shoot with on Sundays bought a bunch of Remington 7-1/2s from Fowlers last week, and Remington 7-1/2s have been a pain to come by these past several months.

As far as magnum primers, it should be fine, but moreso with ball powders. You definitely need to work up carefully.

I'm shooting .223 w/ Hornady 55gr FMJ-BT, CCI 41's, and Vit N-135 powder (don't have the charge handy - notebook's at home). Works like a charm. Fires every time from my RRA upper, no slamfires.

As with any change that you make to your current recipe, back the charge off 5-10% and work your way back up.
