    Help Identifying Brass

So I've been separating my .223 brass by brand and then later I'll separate by date. Anyway, I was curious what some of the stamps stand for.

LC - I'm sure that's Lake City, but I've seen some where it's LC next to each other and then others with L and then the C is quite further. Still Lake City?

WSS - I was thinking Winchester but I have some that just says Winchester.

    R - P - No idea with that one

    GFL - Again no idea

Then I have some I know:
    Winchester
    FC - Fiocchi
    PMC - Remington PMC

Which of these are the best quality brass? So far I have the fewest problems when trimming and cleaning with WSS and LC. Thanks.

      FC is Federal
      GFL is Fiocchi
PMC is not Remington. They call it Precision Made Cartridge, made by Poongsan Corporation
WSS: I don't know. If it is WCC, it is Winchester.
      R-P is Remington

          Here you go:

          LC: Lake City Ammunition Plant
          WSS:
          R-P: Remington Arms Co.
          GFL: Giulio Fiocchi, Lecco, Italy
          FC: Federal Cartridge Co.
PMC: Poongsan Metal Manufacturing Company Ltd., Seoul, Republic of Korea

My mistake on the Fiocchi. I just knew I shot some and so I figured that was it. Don't remember shooting any Federal. Now that I think about it, it is WCC not WSS. But I have others that just have Winchester on them so I thought maybe they were different.

Which of those are the best brass in your opinions?

I've noticed all the Fiocchi and Federal casings were so short I couldn't trim them so that worried me. It will throw off my COAL.

It won't change your COAL, unless you're constantly altering your seating depth to match the cannelure. What it will affect(to an extent) is neck tension, and crimp. If you're loading match ammo it'd be a concern. If it's just practice/plinking ammo I wouldn't be concerned.

WCC: Western Cartridge Company (Olin), East Alton, IL
They own Winchester according to wikipedia.

Out of all the ones you listed, I would keep/use these for match/target loads, in order of preference:

                  -- Lake City
                  -- Winchester
                  -- Remington

All the others you listed are decent brass too, but personally, I would use them for plinking ammo. I've heard internet rumors of Federal brass being soft and the primer pockets opening up after a few loads, but I can't confirm that personally.

i segregate by headstamps cause i love rp the primers go in easy and stay

the fc i have to chuck almost every other one as the primer pocket feels lose and i test with a rod and can push it out

the lc i always have to ream and champher as they are crimped

the s&b has super tight pockets and dont notice till i try to seat a primer and it only goes 75% in

pmc is nice but crimped most of the time

never seen wss only wcc and its crimped

same with most winchester if find

found some Ik and it had small primer holes that jammed my decapper
