    over pressure

I am kinda new to CA only been here 6 months or so. i have had a load worked up for my 300 win mag i set un when i was in NC. i use 168 hornady a-max w/ 56.6 gr of varget, and federal 215 magnum match pimers. in nc this was a very accurat combo. i had groups less than 1/4" regularly. but here i am getting flattened primers and sticking cases, never had that there. first i thought it was the temperature here, but it was way hotter there. i dont know why it acting like this now. any ideas on what is causeing the pressure?

Varget should be very flat over temperature. If your cases get too long, they can cause a pressure increase.

You might even be stretched into the grooves & lans which will make it stick. It will be drier out here compared to NC. We can have 40% humidity where you have 80-90% Back East. Sorry you had to come out here....this place is unfriendly to gun owners

Is it the same lot number of Varget powder? I have heard of lot to lot variations/inconsistencies with this powder giving some guys fits. I also had the same thing happen with a load of IMR 4831 in a .300Wby that appeared well below maximum with one lot and showed pressure signs with a differnet lot.

You are right in the middle of the band for Varget so it shouldn't be an overload due to powder. Re-check the throat of your rifle and the OAL of your loads in case the dies got jiggled hard during the move. Check the trim length of the cases and the chamber neck and throat for deposits.

I did move here for military,i'm a marine from mirramar. i trim my cases after every use, just to be sure they are within limits. I put the OAL at 3.535 which is about .005 to .01 off the lands. which i changed from just touching the lands. it was still showing pressure off the lands. i try to keep the oal within +/- .002 of 3.535.
