300 WSM elk loads

Thinking of making a 300WSM to be used as elk gun, plan to get one good load and use it exclusively, weather elk or deer. Deer are not a problem but I am trying to pick a good bullet for reloading that will really perform on elk. I worry some 180's might not be tough enough so leaning towards 200's despite the velocity drop.
So what do you guys out there with 300 WSM's prefer? I want something accurate as possible but tough enough to punch through even on longer shots

I shot either the 180 grain Partition or the 180 grain Barnes TSX.

Dont know why you would think 180 gr isnt enough..killed a bunch of em with 130gr coming out of a 270...shot placement , as, or more so on killing game..That said i reload for a 300wsm and use 180TSX...havent seen results as gun is this years model...but i dont have any worries they are gonna work...good luck with whatever you decide....

Yeah you are right primers, as long as I put it in the right spot should not be a problem. Probably more selection in 180's also. My worries came from reading reviews on midway and some were coming apart or not going through, and I was thinking of punching throgh shoulders and dropping them in thier tracks, might just stick to classic behind the shoulder shot.
What kind of accuracy are you getting and what rifle/barrel twist do you have?

I have friends who have used 150gr Hornady and 150-165gr Sierria in a 30-06 with excellent results. I have another friend with a 300weatherby who used 180hornady and had good results. For me in a 300mag I would use 150-180gr Nosler Partitions or Swift A-Frames or Serroico(sp). There is no need for a 200gr bullet with all the good bullets out there. There was a recent article in one of the mags about only using 150gr bullets as the better bullets out there work just fine for everything including elk/moose.
