    50DTC Ammo

Well, we all know that Ben sells this ammo, and if you buy an M96 from EDM, you can get some there, but is there anyone else that sells this stuff???

On the other hand... I have been shooting this cartridge for about a year now, love it, been reloading for about 10, that is unless you count me putting rounds in boxes for my dad as they came out of his dillon progressive, starting when I was only 5, lol. Anyway, while at the range with a friend the other day, he commented that this cartridge is a pretty niche market.

So here is the 2nd question, I'm located in the Bay Area, does anybody think it would be worth it for me to starting producing this round and getting an FFL 06? I already have a business location avaiable to me that already deals with haz-mat... and I really want to own my own business... I don't know anybody else near me who shoots this round, so I figured this would be the easiest way to figure this out...

for an 06ffl,you need to pay Itar $

    Three-Tier Registration System
The department is adopting a three-tier registration fee schedule, as part of its effort to bring registration fees into closer alignment with the cost of licensing, compliance and other related activities.
The first tier will be a set fee of $2,250 per year for registrants who are renewing a registration, required to register by law and who have not submitted any applications during the twelve month period ending 90 days prior to the expiration of their current registration. This tier includes those registering with the department for the first time.
The second tier is for registrants who have submitted ten or fewer applications during the twelve month period ending 90 days prior to the expiration of their current registration. For this tier, registrants will pay a set fee of $2,750 per year.

Good info to know about the licensing. Thankfully I can say that the cost of licensing would not be an issue for me. I was thinking about expanding this business if it works out, catering to more unique calibers... like 338RUM, 375H&H, 45/70... basically the bigger stuff. Of course this is also hypothetical right now. Anyone else, besides Ben that sells 50 DTC?

And anyone else interested in buying locally, or has everyone started reloading this round?

Not trying to rain on the parade but there are not a lot of long distance ranges here like there are in Socal. On the other hand I couldnt afford $4 a round even if there were.

You'd be better off focusing on the community of big-caliber shooters. Send a PM to CSACANNONEER, I know he shoots a Fifty and might be able to answer some questions.

Here's a thread from a guy who knows all about setting up a ammunition business and how to run it.

Jerry from American Ammo (something like that) sells it as well. Thats where EDM gets theirs or at least used to. I prefer Bens, shoots better in my Windrunner and brass was lasting longer. Not sure how business for this caliber would be, many who shoot it also reload it.

i sell 50 DTC ammunition. Ben showed me the entire process...thats i got into loading DTC. before that i just manufactured "everything" else but the big stuff.....(9mm,40,45,223 etc etc the std's).

getting an 06 FFL is not that hard. just a lot of running around and about 2-3 months and a site check....
