    Bay area ranges & Brass

Does anyone know what local bay area ranges do with the brass left behind? Specifically south bay ranges like Reeds and TM. Do they dump them, sell them or reload them? Thanks!

Most likely they sell the brass as scrap.

Metcalf - you can pick up your own brass. Skeet/trap - when the hull hits the ground it belongs to them.

Pretty sure they sell it as scrap - don't think Metcalf reloads.

How about Livermore Pleasonton Rod and Gun club? I could probably just ask them what they do with it next time I'm there but I will ask you guys first. Haha

Sold as scrap to fund the club . . . just like the shot is recovered/recycled funding club activities.

Not absolutely positive but I am sure they sell it as a revenue source.

This item has been discussed on many different forums and the conclusion is that if you bring your own ammo the spent brass belongs to you. In other words
if the Range wants to keep YOUR brass they need to compensated you for it or that is theft.
What would happen if your dropped a mag or your keys on the floor do they now belong to the Range?

I know it is not the range area you are talking about, but, the indoor range I go to sometimes in Solano county, your brass is yours! The brass left behind they sell for (I think) $4 a lb. but you have to "mine" through it to pick out what you want!

Reeds has a guy they either sell it to or gets it for free because he cleans the backstop or something like that.

As stated they sell it as scrap metal. Once in a blue moon they clean out all the lead from the backstops and berms and sell that as well. I had a long conversation with a RSO at Livermore about this a while back.

The recycle yards pay a buck a pound, and that's after the range separates out the aluminum and steel which are both worthless to the recycler. They even want the nickle separated. The range rule of not picking up other brass is to keep you guys from fighting over it! The range can sell it, but nobody is getting rich off your empties.
