should my ammo look like this ? whats wrong ?

ok so I normally buy the 20 pack federal xm193 5.56 ammunition and the brass cartridges are all shinny and clean looking 100% throughout the whole casing. Well i just order 2 packs of 200 from natches and the casings look burnt. It looks like they have been heated at the tip where the bullet is. Is this from being repacked ? did they sell me re packed ammo ? I have never seen this on any of the bullets in my 20 pack, so it makes me wonder, and not only do they look burnt, but there is sticky little blobs all over them. its hard to see in the pictures but here ya go. lmk what you think, because i am a new shooter, and dont know much. thanks

i think they're find. i had bought some remington 7.62X39 and the edge of the cartridge that held the bullet looked like that and it was fine. also they seemed to be lubed with something they worked fine but for you just wait for other cgner suggestions or go to a gunsmith or gunrange for advice maybe a reloader can help you.

All brass is annealed like this. If it is polished enough, it visually goes away.

That's just what milspec annealed brass looks like. They anneal that end of the brass to reduce the chance of it splitting. Commercial ammo is polished again after the annealing process to make it shiny.

thanks, so since i bought in bulk they just didnt polish them ?

and i am going to clean all the bullets because they are grimy and have little globs on them. what should i use to clean them ?

Don't clean with soaps, solvents or abrasives like steel wool or sandpaper. Just wipe the rounds off with a dry rag as well as you can go shoot em'. If it really bothers you, you could tumble them in a corncob or crushed walnut media for 10-15 minutes and they oughta' look nice and pretty.

Either just give them a quick wipe with a rag and don't worry about it, or tumble them in polishing media for 10-15 minutes like I mentioned earlier.

And they are fine. As someone said, they are just not polished a second time like commercial ammo. Relax, and shoot them. Life will be ok.

I wouldn't tumble live rounds.
You might break the powder into smaller pieces and change the burn rate.
