Thought on reloading

I was looking at some threads here on reloading and on how much ammo is to much and was wondering
1. How many reload just enough to shoot weekly or monthly and how many reload as much as they can to have a huge stock of ammo incase of a SHTF situation.
2. Do you reload different types of loads for the same round. EX, one for selfdefense, one for the range, one for competition, etc....
3. Do any of you reload for calibers you don't even have a gun in just incase you get that caliber gun down the road (potential money saver) or for a SHTF situation so you just have many types of ammo available for trade and stuff.

The latter.
Only .308 gets two different loads. Plink and Match. You should not reload ammo for SD.
No. I reload and shoot all major calibers.

1. I try to keep at least 200 rounds per caliber of my reloads on hand at all times.
2. I do not reload for HD, the only round I make different loads of is .38 Special, I like SWC in my revolvers but the Marlin 1894 doesn't care for them, it gets it's own reserve of LRN.
3. In case of SHTF, I'm still sitting on my stockpile of y2k/Obama Scare/pre AB962 factory ammo.

I'm not fishing bud, just had some thoughts and see what people had to say since everyone is a little different and has different philosophies. I've shot with and gotten to know some of the top competitive shooters in the nation and it's always interesting talking to them about this type of stuff lol

I reload as much as I can afford. Considering I'm in school, and work part time these days, its not as much as I would like. I normally shoot about 500-800 rounds a month of .45 when its not raining, so it goes fast. Im trying to load at least 100 extra HD/SD type loads a month to stash

all .45 loads LRN 230 grain (soon to be 200FP) for plinking, Developing a 200g flatpoint for IPSC/IDPA, and a 185 XTP load for stashing

I'm saving components for 9mm, and need to start for .223 so I can reform them into 7.62x25. My AK 7.62x39 is just to cheap to consider reloading for it yet

I shoot around 1,500 rounds of .45ACP per month. I like to reload in lots of 1K per session. So I do have about a months worth of loaded .45ACP.
SHTF all depends where you live.

That could prove to be a bit problematic. How are you planning on testing your loads during the load development stages?

I'm just getting started myself, so my habits might change, but its always been that I don't have practice/fun ammo unless i have an extra 50 cal can full stashed away somewhere (just in case, you know ammo isn't getting any cheaper). But I see some 20-30mm cans in my near future...

I currently split most my cans 50/50 Half hard (FMJ, AP, buck shot) half soft (SP, HP, bird shot).. Though I think that will change soon too, having 2+ cans per caliber (atleast one for each).
I have actually been thinking about stocking up on 7.62x39 ammo which I dont have a rifle for...... Yet.... Also likely to change once I have ammo for it...
