I have a used RCBS press with no dies and I read somewhere that there is a die for it to use it for swaging crimped primer .223/5.56 brass. Anyone seen this? Is there anything else I'd need to buy?

swager for RCBS press

There is a single stage swaging setup but if you are doing anything more than 250 pieces at a time you are going to hate it. If takes a lot of force compared to a dillon super swager. The kit is cheap but the super swager is only $100. Time vs. Money. -

Primer Pocket Swager & Priming Tool
Our ?ALL STEEL? Swager & Priming Tool can be used in any reloading tool. The Swager will remove the crimp from any military case. Both of these items come complete for large and small primers. The swage punches are made from steel and hardened, so there is nothing to ever wear out. We believe there is no tool that is quicker or easier to use on the market today !

I have the RCBS swaging tool. It does it's job but once the brass is pressed to be swage, it's a btch to remove..Comment

The rcbs tool is fine for moderate quantities, mine works like a charm.
For mass processing the Dillon tool is the shizzle.
Either you have a lee press and can't use the collar to pop the cases off, or you're doing something wrong.
*edit* I saw in another thread you said you were using a lee turret. Now I understand why you don't care for it. Have you tried putting a spacer under the case stripper cup to raise it enough to pop 'em off? A large washer or two ought to do it.Last edited by tujungatoes; 12-06-2010, 10:04 PM.sigpicOriginally posted by Dr. ElkyIf your a man who wears white sunglasses, your probably a douche bagOriginally posted by CSACANNONEERI've been know to cross dress and go the other way at certain events.Comment

I have reamers/cutters as well as the RCBS kit. I do not use any of them anymore since I got the dillon unit.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I use the RCBS swager kit on my breech lock. As others have stated it can be a pain for large quantities but it gets er done for my needs.

If you have a Breech Lock Challenger press, you can't really use the remover/collar/cup because the primer catcher box at the bottom of the press makes it an un-flat surface for the cup to knock off the shell. About the only workable solution is to roll and twist the shell off of the swager.
If you have one of these, you can make a spacer out of a piece of wood to sit on the primer catch box. I was about to do this with a Dremmel router attachment, but simply used another press for swaging.Comment

We use the .50 BMG version of this tool and it works very well with a small amount of lube on the swage ram. We have tried the RCBS equivalent for LR primers and it is marginal. CH4D has great products!look under priming tools
